I have two cars, the '10 Prius w/180,000 miles and a '97 LS400 w/142,000 miles. Both cars are in great shape, but I'm getting the, new to me, car bug. So far, I've looked at a '14Volt, because of it's great fuel mileage and it is a hatchback, but more than I want to spend. A Ford dealer near me has a '14 C-Max SEL Energi that looks great and the wife really likes it. Trade in on either is really low, so I will buy straight out and sell one of my current rides. The hard decision for me would be which do I get rid of, the Lexus is such a sweet ride but 24 mpg, the Prius mileage is great, but lot of miles accumulated. I'm 73 and we average 25,000 miles per year, the two cars I have would last me as long as I'm able to drive, but that danged bug won't let me alone. The C-mas has 94,000 miles on it for less than 10K out the door. This next week, I need to decide what I'm going to do, anybody recommend a cure for this bug thing?
We just had a similar bug last month, so I have no real cure other than: feed the need. Our cars prior to July 2nd: 2010 Prius II with 161 k miles and a 98 4Runner with 263 k miles. We were looking to replace the 4Runner as we needed a second car we could take on long distances and not have the wife doubt it (I had the utmost confidence in the 4runner as I know how it was maintained ). Our cars after July 2nd's shopping trip: 2010 Prius II and this (2017 RX450h): If your situation goes like mine did, you'll end up with the C-Max.
I'm sure she's smitten with you . You've already gotten yourself in the Lexus pool. I'm proud that hasn't led to a Lexus hybrid yet. Or maybe it will. I can't wait to begin to maintain the RX450H ! Underside shots during maintenance to come .
Every time I see a CTH, I point her attention in the opposite direction, and so far I've been able to resist. Looking forward to the upskirt shots of the RX.
Maybe you want to trade the Lexus for a Fusion Hybrid. I love mine......for a "road car" with more room and a better ride.
Good man diverting her attention . If she likes the Prius, she would LOVE the CT. When I was getting the Suntek Clear film on yesterday, one of the Techs had a 2015. I was there with @Pedal Logic and we were able to gain access to it for some recon. What a nice car. I've spent some time underneath our RX450h and the rear transmission will be a piece of cake to drain and refill . The front might require removal of the drivers wheel to get at the fill plug . I'll need to get a weekend subscription to Toyota tech info to ensure I know what I'm doing. It would be nice if Club Lexus had some members doing their own maintenance with helpful info, but not on the 4th Gen RX. On the plus side, the splash shield is void of a panel to access the oil filter and drain plug. One less piece of plastic to lose.
I do like the Fusion Hybrid, my son has a '13 and he really likes it, always bragging when he busts 40 mpg. It is a lot more refined ride and sound control, but no hatchback.
I think you should sell the Prius. Both because there's no need to have two hybrids (the Prius has all the same strengths and weaknesses as your new C-max will have), and because the '10 prii are seen as a problematic model year. If you decide to sell the Lexus though, message me the details. I know some people in KY that would love to have your '97.
Thanks for the offer of leads, I am leaning toward selling the '97, if I go with the C-max, I have a few pictures of the Lexus and I can text them to you if I do the deal.
And that is an over-riding consideration.......why ?? With fold down back seats I think you get similar functionality.
On the purchase side I'll say, having owned both a Volt and CMax, go with the CMax for the comfort and better real world options over the Volt. The Gen 1volt center stack controls make no sense and are hard to use especially if your eyesight and hand coordination/dexterity aren't what they use to be. Even tho' the CMax has a touch screen that controls everything, it has redundant, good ol' dial controls for radio and HVAC.
I agree concerning the center stack, but either one I will have a lot of studying to do. I downloaded the owners manual and 444 pages. Had a bad night, tired already and the bug has subsided a bit. I have tomatoes to can today and that world changing eclipse to deal with, will probably take another look tomorrow.
Check. But are you SURE that the 12 cu ft number isn't just the trunk by itself ?? My trunk is pretty small......because of the batteries in the floor......but I'm pretty sure that it would be a LOT more than 12 if you fold down the back seats and count the back seat as "cargo" space.
Still haven't bought the C-max, went there today and made an offer, haggled a while and got within $440 of my price. I left and put the valve cover gasket on the right side of the Lexus will do the other side tomorrow. The dealer called and we're now within $220 apart and I'm sticking to my price, the salesman said he'd still try to get them to my price. I drove the Lexus there and I think I am really crazy, it will probably out last the C-max, but you know how that bug can work on you.
If you end uo getting the C-max, I'd like to hear your opinion on it, and real world fuel milage compared to your Prius. Wishing you the best!
Milkman, I had a low mileage '96 LS400 for years. I sold it a few years ago and have missed it ever since. Even it's mpg was decent, compared to other cars in it's class. Great vehicle.
