No range in the leak, but the battery capacity is 40kWh. If the efficiency is about the same as the current Leaf, then the range will be about 143 miles. The efficiency should improve. Assuming the same level of efficiency as the Ioniq Electric, the range will be 160. better is possible, but it will undershoot 200 miles by a noticable gap.

The new Leaf is a threat to the Ioniq Electric, not the Bolt or Model 3.

that's the model s in the video, not leaf. and btw, 150k on the coasts ain't that much money.

The SL price really closes in on the Bolt. Hope that doesn't mean the S is really sparse on features.

Well I'm recently retired making $50k/year for me and my wife. We have two plug-in hybrids: 2014 BMW i3-REx and 2017 Prius Prime. Both cost $0.25 to drive 10 miles on electric mode which on a fixed, retiree income is a blessing. About 1/3d of our electric miles come from free chargers put up by merchants who want our repeat, EV business. Anyone getting free gasoline for shopping somewhere?

Coming off lease, similar used BMW now cost ~$23k. We're also seeing $3k dealer discounts bring new 2017 Prius Prime Plus into ~$25k range before any tax credit. The only 'green' involved are the dollars in my wallet instead of the gas pumps ... pumps owned by the propagandists who made this 'class warfare' video.​

Sparse in a sense compared to the base Ioniq Electric. They are both at the same price. The Leaf SV is around the same price the Ioniq Electric Limited.

Nissan as another level of trim for about a thousand less than a Bolt. What does it have to warrant that price? The hopeful view is that it has a larger battery to break the 200 mile range target. The pessimistic one is that they've discontented the base trim to make it unappealing for upselling. The realistic view is that they added an overpriced nav system.

 

I better check my bank statement again, I must have overlooked a digit or two.

 

Just buy a lottery ticket each week and be a virtual millionaire.

If Nissan discounts off MSRP and lease rates are anything like the time course of generation one, there will be plenty of good deals to be had in the near future.

 

Looks interesting. They should probably lop another $3-5k off those prices, and it'll sell like hotcakes. Sure, it's less range than the Bolt and Model 3, but it's thousands less to make up for it.

And since many people use sticker price as the sole determinant for what car they buy, it might entice them to try out the Leaf.

Of course, if it's still using a passive air-cooled battery system, I'll pass due to the issues the early Leafs had with that.

 

Yup, would never buy a very expensive EV that didn't have a serious and effective way to keep the battery at proper temps. Not a big deal when you spend only a few thousand on a used one though.

 

New Leaf, to cost $1,000's less than a Model 3 or the Bolt. Who'da thunk!! Ok . . . . if we're gona talk apples to Coconut Trees .... our junkie 6½ year ol' seriously limited range, passively air cooled battery traction pack, Nissan leaf (now) costs thousand less than our ELEVEN & ½ year ol' Lexus Hybrid SUV ... and the distance in $1,000's just keeps getting bigger & bigger each year !!!
