All the time the car is in 'Ready', everything on the 12V is really being powered from the hybrid battery bus, via a 200V-to-12V (actually to 13.5-14.5V) inverter. The 12V battery is merely sitting there as a buffer, and getting slowly recharged.

The 12V battery provides the power only when that inverter is shut down, which generally means any time the car is not 'Ready'. Neutral is not one of those times.

Other environmental differences -- outside temperatures, humidity, and shading -- will make a lot of difference to the AC load.

    Problem solved!

Turned everything off, unplugged all the 12v accessories, battery didn't go down at all.

Thanks for the help to everyone who gave that info.

He is not wrong.......and you are not a nice person.......as usual.

IF.....you really think he is wrong, explaining how and why would potentially be much more useful than just flinging insults around.

Actually I meant to quote yours not his. I thought that was your post. I owe Fuzzy1 an apology for the mistake.

    "Something doesn't add up here.
    ...
The fact that it's going through the car wash should be NO different than your driveway test.'

You are wrong. Just as you were when I said the car wash took 2-3 mins. It took 2:38. Among other things.

Saying you are wrong is not an insult. Its stating an observed fact.

And that makes sense. One reason being in my driveway in neutral, the humidity levels and environment are totally different, plus the wheels aren't rolling. Also the headlights weren't on.

Thanks for the info. Still learning and apologies again for using the wrong quote earlier.

i never thought of the humidity angle, but i don't recall anyone ever testing battery drop time inside and outside a carwash for comparison. this thread has shed new light on an old problem.

Maybe look for the other kind of car wash, the kind where the car is motionless and the washers pass along it. Or DIY or whatever.

It's the nature of the best: the Prius will run the hybrid battery down, when the car is on and in Neutral. And it can't be off and in Neutral.

You can dodge the ramifications by minimizing power needs, and so on, maybe enough. But that's all, you can't avoid eventual complete drain.

    It is becoming obvious that:
Either you don't understand English good
OR you just enjoy creating a fight where none exists.

If you are going to claim something is "wrong" you need to at least state what you think is "right".
Why exactly do you think the battery drain should be any different going through a car wash than it is sitting in your driveway ???

AND I never said that your estimate of the time to go through was not right. What I DID say is that people in general tend to get time estimates off.

But I'm tired of your trolling ways and I quit.
Others can draw their own conclusions.

I went thru earlier today, turned everything off and lost no bars, so that worked.

Sitting in driveway in N for over 10 mins didn't drain it, so the car wash environment itself is making the difference.

In my 3 years of Prius ownership and countless drive through car wash trips, I only got the warning light once, and that was when I waited in line too long with the ac going. I blamed only myself.

SO..IMO, as long as you have a "healthy" HV battery, the only "trick"you need to know or apply, is enter the car wash with a descent level of charge, and don't run your AC or Accessories.

But for some, this seems too hard a concept to grasp.

It works fine after I shut down lights, ac, radio and unplugged adapters.

Before entering the car wash, I usually set the AC to recirculate mode, and then turn it completely off if the weather is cool.
When it's hot, I set it to recirculate, lowest fan speed, and a degree or two higher to reduce load, but still cool a little.
If I notice that the HV battery is a bit low, then I do a forced charge before going through the car wash.

    -----------------------

There are a couple of those "stationary car" car washes around here, where the electromagnetic signals from the distance sensors are so strong that they jam the smart key signal. So if you ever use one of those, be ready to put the key in the slot to start the car, or just don't turn it off.

How do you do a forced charge? I've tried that by pressing the accelerator while in P, that will run the engine, but no arrows were displayed on the HSI so I assumed the HV battery was not getting charged.

Could possibly use Maintenence Mode which leaves the engine running. But at the rate my battery dropped, that wouldn't have helped.

Easier for me to just turn everything off for 2-3 mins

To force charge, shift the transmission to D, and while pressing the brake firmly, also press the accelerator.
For safety, I also recommend setting the parking brake and making sure nothing is directly in front of the car.
