The storage space under the rear floor. The second glove box. The bigger center arm rest space.

Yep, there were a few things - but the way a Gen 4 drives so, so much better, is such an advance you can overlook those matters.

Yes, I miss some of the storage space (especially under the rear floor) but I carry less 'junk' and don't seem to be missing anything.

For example, I used to use the second glove box for my CD collection, but now I have them all on a very small USB stick, which is permanently plugged in.

Less junk = less excess weight = more mpg.

I miss the rain sensor. Not even an option here - standard only on the most expensive trim.
I'd like to know from the idiotic marketing of Toyota Germany why they are not offering it at all. It rains all the time here in Germany!

So who needs a sensor? :)

Just weighed the owners manual that came with the gen 4. 36 ounces. By removing that I've saved .00000000878 mpg. Just think what would happen if i lost a full 10 pounds of weight! Yeah that extra weight really destroys the fuel economy. (Sarcasm).

But honestly. I've been in the habit of always carrying a few things in every car I've owned. Jumper cables, first aid kit, road flares, fixaflat, a few hand tools, etc. for the life of me I can't find a decent place to put those items in an out of the way place in the gen 4 and I feel naked driving without them. It's quite a conundrum. HELP! And quite frankly a roll of duct tape has literally saved my life and the life of others more than once. Zip ties too.

There's a bit of space around the spare tyre, but won't fit ALL that stuff. Personally, I used to carry a lot of those items (full tool box), but with most modern cars, particularly PRIUS, I'm not inclined to fiddle with too much.

Since they don't put a spare tire in the rear, why can't they do foaminserts that have some storage cubbies in that spot?

Depends on which model you buy, some have a spare, some don't. Mine has a spare.

I don't think I've carried a toolbox or spares in a car since the late nineties. I do have a 12v electric pump and a tyre plug repair kit in the boot though as well as my space saver spare.

I didn't have my Gen 4 yet but a few things I already miss from the Gen 3 are:
    • Solar Powered Ventilation System & Remote A/C
    • Storage space underneath the shifter
    • the "2nd" glovebox
    • The JBL system (not available in Canada for gen 4)
    • The ability of playing DVD from the radio

I really miss the flat folding rear cargo area. It was so easy to open the hatch, slide bikes or other stuff in, like a catering truck. It was also sturdy enough to sleep on it. And! Bonus Secret compartment underneath! The new model is a regular car trunk. Boo

Lot of wasted space with no tire.

I think the tire will make a come back in a different version shortly.

Not in the UK, my 2016 Gen 4 has leather, not softex. My previous 2012 Prius+ had softex though.

I'm intrigued - a different version of a tyre ... square? Nope, Mythbusters debunked that idea.

Elliptical, triangular? Or maybe like this, I think developed for the military, though I'm not sure if it got past the prototype stage:

It did get past prototype stage. Wasn't durable enough for high speeds. Michelin makes and sell these for riding lawnmowers and construction equipment. Crazy expensive at 2k for the lawnmower pair. Works great for their uses just notready for road cars yet. Maybe time and technology will change that.

Ah, the Michelin Tweel, it must be over 10 years ago since they came out. Regardless of durability, they just looked odd on a car.

While we're on the subject, what happened to coloured tyres, did they not make it to market ?
