Thanks, guys. Now that I have one, I was thinking of changing the pic to the one the dealer took of us just before I drove off. But I AM a crazy cat lady (who drives like a crippled snail).

Do I have to sell my Prime since I hate cats?

Not according to our shepherd/lab mixes.

Dogs improve your mileage. They tend to be somewhat intolerant of unexpected lateral acceleration and the act of reducing lateral acceleration improves fuel efficiency.

I have heard that this is not as much of an issue for cats, but I probably shouldn't open that can of worms.

Our cats join us in the drive when we are away for extended periods. The boy sits on the cover between the two front seats and places a paw on the driver's forearm. They definitely prefer a gentle ride.

I leveraged a mountain into 16.7 miles/kWh over a 125 mile trip today, even with AC on the whole way. It appeared to peak at 22.2 at one point. I lost 20 miles of EV range over the last 85 miles, entirely on EV. The trucks I was drafting with DRCC went so slow uphill that the Ice never came on in EV Auto during that downhill run.

I used to hate encountering trucks in the mountains. Now I actively search for them.

It only cost me an additional 30 minutes.

Nah, nobody's perfect!! But you should look into your hatred and find out where that came from. Remember, there are a lot of car reviewers who don't like Primes; like cats, I think it's just because they don't know enough about them!!

Welcome! So have you trained your cat to work the screen while you're driving?

Just a comment and reminder to everyone, that the numbers you can get for EV range depend as much on the drive you have to do, as how you drive. Those who have a freeway commute outside of rush hour (when one has to go above 55 unless you want to cause an accident), will never be able to equal the EV Range numbers of those who drive during rush hour, or who have a city commute (most friendly to EV Range). I know I'll never ever be able to have a number approaching 40 because a lot of my commute is freeway, often without traffic. (I could "cheat" and only use EV for the times when I have to drive slower, but that defeats the purpose of the car). The best I've had has been just shy of 35, but it's usually in the low 30s (with a mix of slow and fast) and when I'm only driving at fast freeway speeds (even keeping it to 65) that number gets lower.

But I still use the EV when I can, it's so much cleaner than gas (at least here in SoCal).

Just the other day, the power co (SCE) sent out a pamphlet showing where they get their power from -- and for 2016, coal was only 4%. The rest were renewables, nat gas, and other cleaner options. So even if the EV range runs out somewhat quickly on the freeway (when going 65mph, you can cover 25 miles before you know it!) I like to use the EV. Only thing is, I can only charge at home (don't have one place where I "work" that I can charge at).

Mostly just from being allergic. When something makes you sick, you tend not to like it. But they also do very little aside from scratching everything and killing birds. Did you know that house cats kill over a billion birds a year just in the US? Kind of shocking.

An interesting, although sad reminder for me, my late wife lost her allergy to cats when she underwent chemo; I guess the chemo destroyed the allergy triggering mechanism.
Another big killer of birds, especially raptors and migratory birds are wind turbines: thousands of birds are killed annually. So much for eco-correctness!
You'll be pleased to know that little Yewee doesn't harass any of the hundred or so birds that daily visit my garden, including the many at the feeder.

I do wind energy research, including wildlife interactions, for a living. Of the birds killed by human activities, about 1 in 10,000 are killed by wind turbines. The big killers are power lines, buildings, cats, cars and habitat loss. In fact, it could be argued that the pollution and habitat loss wind energy displaces more than makes up for the losses caused by direct interactions. Further, we're working hard to reduce even that small amount.

I'm going to commit another heresy (as I await my salesman to get back from vacation to put in my order), but what is all the fuss about with getting range estimates up - don't you still get whatever you actually achieve on each EV trek - in other words if your commute usually lasts 30 miles, just because the estimate has gone down, you still get your 30 miles on your regular commute, right?

No, the actual range you get varies quite a lot based on temperature, driving speed, road conditions, wind and so on - the same things that change the estimate since the estimate is based on the performance during previous drives.

^ I don't have that same display that yours has (40.7 miles). Mine has a little white battery with a percentage. How do you get the mileage guess-o-meter to display there?

It's in the meter setup area on the setup tab on the MID.

    @M Ness
I was so impressed by your 80 mpg feat driving home, I had to try it myself during my recent 257 mile drive

    Prime2.jpg

I started with a full battery, so after calculation my HV MPG was 80.3

    Cheers!

I've been able to charge at home exactly one week. My predicted mileage has increased a little every day and this AM was at 37. Hoping to hit 40!

Of course, wanting to keep my driving score over 90 also introduces some bad habits, like driving through yellow lights and rolling gently through stop signs so I maintain my high breaking score.
