Adaptive cruise control / safety sense issue

SA - steering assist. At least I think!

Yeah was a long drive. Flew out on a red-eye wednesday morning and got back Thursday night right before midnight. Longest drive I have ever done. I was planning on taking several more days, but something came up and I had to be back by Friday, so I had to push straight through. Mileage wasn't as good as I had hoped (averaged 49 mpg) , but I was going 75+ the entire trip, and never stopped for an extended period, so I didn't have a chance to plug in either.

Love, love, love the car! Though, at about hour 25 of my drive I was wishing I had just had it shipped!

 

Had I know, I would have volunteered to be your spare driver. It may seem strange but I really like driving the Prime.

Drove my new Prime on interstate highway for 300 mile distance trip for the first time. On two lane high way with not too many cars, DRCC worked amazingly well. My question is when you have your foot off of brake, car slows down by itself when approaching a slow vehicle in front of you car by DRCC, does the car turn on braking lights automatically? I couldn't tell.

 

posted a screenshot from the manual in some post, the answer is yes, when enough braking force is required ... and you might know that the car will come to a complete standstill if required ...

 

That wasn't really the question.
IF......it is only necessary to reduce the cruising speed a bit, such that little or no actual braking is required......then the answer is NO, no brake lights.

 

Iv not had a major problem with the CC. Iv used it on the Freeway and in stop and go traffic. Twice the red warning came on and alerted me. I keep it set at the longest distance and I change setting speed to meet conditions. At my settings it drives conservatively and safely.
To use it at the shortest distance, driving 75mph and then continue to use it at slower speeds and heavier traffic without adjusting is asking for problems. I think your Mother accidently hit something to slow the car down and disengage the forward motion and did not realize this. Taking it to the dealer makes sense.
