A good driver is safer than both and a bad one is a lethal weapon with either.

    Couldn't agree more.
However, while I have direct control over my own driving, I have none over the other guy's.
So I will continue to have "safety" as one of my high priorities when buying.

I got a strong premonition that when Mark said Tesla is safer, he was referring to being in a crash. Maybe I'm going out on a limb there .....
As to a good driver, even the bad & good driver can get T-boned or rear ended in the blink of an eye through no fault of his own - so it's not always the final guaranteeing moment of driver being good mediocre or bad. And that takes us full circle regarding a safer versus less crash-resilient car. Perhaps Mark wouldn't have needed to be "correctness-checked" if he'd stated "crash worthy", instead of safe. Either way, I understood what he meant.

This high-performance driving instructor's take on safety is that it's all about -
"Trying to minimize the possibility of something going wrong"
