Hybrid Cell Voltage

Perhaps it could be an inverter failure? My wife's 2010 Prius III recently experienced something similar and that was the root cause - the dealer replaced the inverter, the fluid, etc at no cost under warranty. She runs perfectly now.

What is the Toyota warranty in Vladivostok? I am pretty sure it is different than the US.

 

Ralvals' car is a used import from Japan - there is no warranty.

I don't remember ever reading anything about that happening. As far as I know, there is still no way to grid charge a PiP, so I would guess you'd need to balance them manually, one at a time, but after all the cell phone fires, lately, I'm not likely to try that without knowing a lot more than I know now.

When I had him install the harness on our 2010 in February he said he was. But Lithium technology is trickier .

Did you manage to fix your problem? I have replaced a cell in a lithium pack before and know how hard it can be to balance the cell voltages, SOC and temperature if under-charged I have discharged a single cell while in pack until accepted by the BMS but on a much smaller system. It would be quite dangerous to attempt that if you aren't sure what you are doing.

 

Yes with a headlamp bulb to bring down the voltage on that cell but that wasn't a Prius which is complicated by 6 cells stuck in one battery meaning the only way to balance those cells is to slowly overcharge and discharge until you get the capacity back in that 7.2v battery within the pack. The Nimh batteries are also quite temperature sensitive making balancing even harder. I am glad to hear you resolved your problems

 

You replaced the whole traction battery? Did you find a used replacement, and was it expensive?

 

I think maybe I misunderstood you, yes 56 cells nominal voltage maybe 3.7v but Toyota charge them to a maximum of 4.15v and should be much easier to balance. You can also Parallel the modules to assist. Sorry for late reply I've been very busy lately.
