Featured Model 3 has 310 mile range

    I can't, but I can tell you why I would.
    It, with the supercharger network meets 100% of my needs.
    I like the interior styling and materials far better than any other cars.
    I support companies that I agree with, with my business.
    I like to avoid volatile, carcinogenic, toxic and potentially deadly materials used for fuel.
    I prefer buying my vehicle from the manufacturer rather than through a stealership.

    And finally, I enjoy driving around in a vehicle many said would never exist being made by a company many have said will be out of business years ago, paid for with stock earnings many said would be a total loss:whistle:

    uh-hugh ... & Elon Musk never changes direction. Ok there was that whole thing where he refused to admit people wanted a junk holder between the 2 front seats ... oh yea - then there was that whole thing about supercharging going away & everyone would have to pay with new orders ..... which changed to 'never mind' .... then changed to only free if you purchased via referral .... then there was the M3's - they were supposed to get SOME free Supercharging per/yr ... but then i just found THIS - on the Tesla website ;

    .... then, you COULD get ventilated cooled leather, then you couldn't, then you could get gray leather, then you couldn't, then you could get an active spoiler on your X, then you couldn't. Don't want to beat that dead horse, but as soon as someone else offers up more range? Guess what.

    I would never want to diss a true pooh-pooh'er - or lesson the value of any or all things they may hate, but unlike Toyota, Tesla already does all of the various kinds of sun blocking screens from way too dark for me (like the one below .....

    all the way up to complete blackout. Not that I'd want to rain on anyone's negativity - & I'm sure there are plenty of other complaints about the model 3 you/others may have .... ni biggie ...
    Eventually resale comes into account & that nice sunroof (once you peel off all that black-out stuff) yields a little extra coin for those who change cars as often as I change my socks. Only for those who don't hate the car of course. As for the other gripe (black color) - maybe after they thin out some of those 400,000+ back orders they'll make more than black for the super cheap option. right now? same reason as Henry Ford. As long as you just meet max production, why do more. Worked then, works now.

    Different horses for different courses.

    I don't want to drive around in a car whose purchase price to me exceeds the biggest mortgage I ever had. I've totaled a car before.

    I prefer to have my serious money in the market rather than depreciating assets. A Model S seems to have depreciated ~$30k since its introduction had I bought then.

    The Model-x comes closest of the Tesla models to meeting my needs but I don't like the door complexity, the roof, the service availability (to me) or the price.

    I agree with you on most of your thoughts, but just don't go as far as you in avoiding gas as a fuel.

    No reason we should totally agree, that is what makes life fun. Now if we could only get some others to agree to disagree civilly ...

    just curious - 2 things - (the 1st one does not necessarily just apply to you) many jurisdictions create from $5k to $10k in incentives/rebates. That would cut things way down cost wise, even for the expensive model. But that high-cost might not be the real reason for many, rather plug in fear... and cost is easier to articulate.
    #2 would I be right in guessing that I could have nearly paid for our model X if I had a dollar for each time you heard a Lucy Ricardo joke throughout your lifetime regarding your name? Sorry, inquiring minds just have to know ....

    Tesla said march 2018 for me, but ... I was in line the first day. Its $35K + $1200 destination + tt&l (which is different depending on your state.) If you don't have a reservation, well, my guess is 2019 or later if you don't buy some expensive options.

    For me, it looks like chevy dealers in austin are selling the base for $37,147 + tt&l. The state will give you $2500 to buy from a local dealer, that isn't available for tesla. That puts base tesla model 3 versus base bolt about $1500 less after incentives. YMMV. Of course those of you in states where chevy wants to sell the bolt, can probably get a lot more off the bolt. I'm not sure where you can get one for close to $20K outside of California.

    One article said Tesla should be afraid, very, very afraid of all can get in Bolt at same price a 3. Nah. Look at the 3. It's more desirable. I think 'most' people want a 'sporty' looking car (the 3) over a subcompact looking Fit/Yaris/ etc ... (Bolt). Not knocking Bolt, I cheer every time I see one, just saying most want a car that looks like it's $35k+ when they spend $35k + .

    I want to sit in model 3 see if fits me.

    Already ruled out current Prius, also ruled out all new Camry (seat bottom cushion too small and unsupportive, inadequate, wouldn't enjoy driving Camry which is a bummer, and I agonized over trying again and again to get comfortable, but no go. Avalon or Highlander Touring, good, but all other Toyotas don't work for me)

    Will be looking at all new Accord / hybrid when it comes out.

    if you can net out a bolt at 20k, there won't be any competition for many years.

    November 2017 is our estimated delivery time. Husband was 50th in line in Arizona. We wanted the 75w battery,black and the standard wheels so this config is in the first release. He will have waited longer than I did for my Prime. Ironically both cars were first revealed week apart. No GM, no Hyundai, Ford, etc. there are plenty of lower cost fully electric cars but none as elegant. Husband hasn't been happy since we sold his Lexus for a leased Leaf. He's been patiently smiling and waiting for his turn to come up.

    A word of caution, I have admired the T-28 for decades as an excellent aircraft but it is a little pricy to buy and fly. By the same logic, I can admire the Tesla vehicles for their engineering excellence but they are a little pricy to buy and have some operational challenges.

    Please understand my first post was not as a sales pitch but sharing information. If someone wants to buy the cheapest, gas-powered, used car they can find ... GOOD ON THEM! In like fashion, I throughly enjoyed driving our BMW i3-REx today and it was a coin-toss with our Prius Prime.

    No pure EV is attractive to me because of the cross-country challenges. The Bolt has no defined, fast-DC charging system which says GM is doing it 'for show' (i.e., you bought it so cross country is your problem.) The Tesla has an expanding SuperCharger network so it has some cross-country capability, 1000 times the GM Bolt. Just I live in a fly-over state as do most of my blood-family.

    Today, I remain happy with our plug-in hybrids because they have both efficient urban and affordable cross-country capability. In 5-10 years that may change but I can only buy what meets today's requirements ... not some 'pie in the sky' claim. So give me:
    • Bolt - it is instantly sold or traded in on a plug-in hybrid. There is no planned, high-speed DC, cross-country network.
    • Model 3 - needs testing since a SuperCharger station was put in Athens Alabama.

    if tesla is selling base models by next march, that would be fantastic!

    My delivery estimate for a base Model 3 is between December and February 2018.
    I would guess employees that want a base model will be a bit before that. But for someone that isn't a previous owner or employee March-May is probably closer.

    Part of these estimates will depend largely upon the number of people that buy each stage of manufacturing. If everyone in line bought the longer range + premium upgrades, it would take longer to work through those orders. If no one wanted the longer range the base model would come out quicker.
    The truth, as typical, is somewhere in the middle.

    That depends largely upon how well the ramp up goes, and how many people cancel.
    Some people had unrealistic expectations and are disappointed now. I don't know if that is 100 people, or 100,000 or more likely, somewhere in between.

    Tesla is currently planning to reach production of 20,000/month by the end of December. By the end of 2018 they wand to be at 40,000/month.
    If they reach those goals, and 75% of reservations become orders, I would expect the line will be done in the 4th quarter of 2018.
    lf the ramp up doesn't go according to plan it may take longer. If the ramp up goes faster, or the number of people canceling their reservation is more, it could happen sooner.
    Of course, if there is an influx of people reserving a Model 3 now that the deliveries have started, that line gets longer.

    I want to see the first proper, full, unbiased reviews of the Model 3 where there was some proper testing done against the car... then I will make up my mind about this car:)

    Can you be more specific?
    There have been a number of "first drive" reviews from Motor Trend, CNET, Top Gear, etc.
    But those were just first drive impressions.
    Are you looking more technical data on efficiency, or performance, or something else?

    When asked, the EPA stated they were running some of the tests themselves. They stated there would be a 30 day delay.
    So we should see that near the end of August.

    Typically there are one or two long term tests done by a couple specific automotive news magazines that can flesh out repairs under warranty.

    I have zero desire to beta test for Tesla (in my dime)

    Like any advanced car, I might buy a used example a few years down the road, but it takes a while before I will commit to one model or another, stars usually have to align

    Disappointed how?
    The Standard Model 3 has 220mi range... everyone knew it would be in that ballpark.
    We've already seen the spartan dashboard photos with a single tablet for a display and GUI.
    The sheet-metal was finalized many moons ago.

    Really the only unknown left at this point was if they were going to release the car on schedule- which it appears they have.
