Here i go again with a paint question. I have had TERRIBLE luck with my new car. i got the 17" rims with the 2017 Prius 3 Touring. I bumped them on a curb while parking on the second day of having the car. I'm still adjusting to knowing how much space i have with the car! Anyway, i got a couple dings on the black part of the rim. Luckily, they aren't big scratches. Just literally TWO dots that chipped off. Whats the best paint i can use to just fill in these two spots? they're very tiny, so its a very easy paint job. i just want to get the correct paint, but don't know how to match it. Any ideas how to figure this out or recommendations?

I’m not sure there is a definitive color match for wheels, but you might try Toyota’s touch-up paint (packaged with its own applicator) in a glossy black color called Black Onyx (202), part number 00258-00202-21.

A dealer parts counter near me sells these for $8.51 each, plus tax. They are also sold online, but be sure to check the shipping cost; some sellers have an extra charge for hazardous materials.

I think any gloss black touch-up paint would do too. As the song goes: "Black is black". :)

If the silver get's chipped, it's very likely Classic Silver Metallic, code IF7.

Seeing that those cheapo rims are actually plastic hub caps, you should just use a sharpie pen and cover it. I'm appalled at Toyota for making a hub cap for a premium 17" wheel.

Its only the silver inserts which are plastic, the gloss black part is alloy and not a hub cap.

When the first on-the-road pictures of the 4th gen came out, the black rims with plastic were part of my sinking feeling. Don't much like the black rims, the two-tone look, the plastic. Take the plastic off, (and shell out $70 US for little chromed plastic centre hubs) and they really look like...., better not say.

The 3rd gen 15" plastic wheel covers were a big factor in pushing us to the dusty 2010 touring model (with 17" rims) at the back of the shed. That and the better steering feel. There WAS something different going on, I'm pretty sure of it. In later 3rd gen years I think apart from the turning radius they all got the same steering mechanism?

I have a set of 4th gen 17" wheels in my garage, haven't taken the hub cap off to see what's under it but I just can't believe Toyota would do this. Why not make a standard alloy wheel without a hub cap going on top?

I had no idea that the silver part of the rim was a plastic pice that comes off. i would love to see what the rim looks like with them. Now it makes sense why the manual said not to pick them up in a certain way.

The black part and the silver part is 1 big connected piece, it's a hub cap

The black part is the alloy rim, and there's 5 plastic silver pieces.

I misspoke about the chromed plastic centre hub caps: it does have them at least. I think.

on the 4th gen, the black part is not alloy, it's made to look like it's separate from the silver piece. It's actually just one big 17" hub cap.

I bought the wheels sight unseen, when my driver got back to me, I was shocked to see the complete thing was a hub cap. It's a trick on the eyes to make it look separate.

Pop the (5) silver plastic pieces off, and you'll see what's happening.

    The bare rim (ugh):

You've seen this rim in person? From what I can tell, the black piece and the silver piece cannot be separated, it's part of 1 hub cap. But I haven't analyzed it long enough....I gave up hope early on LOL

no, it isn't. its actually just the silver part. I was doing a google search to find a diagram i had seen previously seen and stumbled upon a post in this forum with a picture of the wheels without the silver part. The black is part of the rim.

No, just grabbed a google image. But that's what it is. There were some early spy shots, a covered 4th gen Prius, tooling around with those bare rims, ugly as sin. They didn't even bother to disguise them, lol.

It looks good, like the Gen 3 17 inch level 5 wheels, if you paint or plasti dip the wheel and plastic inserts one color. Someone painted the inserts gloss black and it looked good, though I would prefer to have gun metal like the persona wheels, or silver.
