I was approved on 06/07, it has been 34 days out of 90 days. I hope this won't cause more delay. Even it said money has been allocated but still paranoid. I still don't understand why it will take 90 days to send out a check after it has been approved. Don't they use something call computer? Maybe they are using Flintstone computer. yabba dabba doo

The non-profit that handles the rebates gets chunks of money from the state at various intervals. When they get a chunk, they pay it out to approved applicants until it is exhausted, and then wait for the next chunk.

Recently got an email saying my check is on its way, and I should receive it within 30 days (they enclose a picture of what their mailing envelope looks like so you know not to throw it away). If anyone's curious, I bought my car in April, and signed up right away back then.

In true irony, my California rebate check will immediately be turned around, and used to pay my California estimated tax so I don't have to pay it later. Would've been nice if I could have had the "left hand" simply give it to the "right hand", but instead, the post office gets to handle that $1500 going both directions.. :)

You are helping USPS. These days hardly anyone mails check for any payment.

Yay, got my $1,500 rebate check today. For those curious, it took around 3 days for it to arrive after the "your check is on the way" email, though I'm in SoCal (may be longer for those in NoCal, as the check was mailed from a San Diego address, at least for us here in SoCal).

Also included in the envelope was a flyer about the $450 Edison rebate available (I guess they know I'm in the Edison coverage area), for those people who might not know about it, which was nice (don't know if they do the same for PG&E customers or customers in other areas where similar rebates are going on).

At any rate, check in hand! :)

I am pretty sure that all of the rebate checks come from the same place, where the Center for Sustainable Energy non-profit that handles the rebates is located.

I don't know about other utilities, but ours puts fliers in their bills advertising their EV/L2 Charger rebates.

    Weird EV rebate news today...

As you all know, the money "ran out" on June 30th (for those who didn't register beforehand for the CA rebate -- unless you're low income), and news of a new possible bill is kind of out there: one bill advanced (in initial form) would subsidize ONLY full-EV cars (NO plug-in hybrids) and would possibly do so to help out Tesla, as the bill -- in addition -- wants to "make up" for the federal tax credit that Tesla buyers will soon lose out on, because once an automaker sells 200,000 vehicles (and Tesla will get there first) the federal tax credit starts to wind down. So the new bill would be a gift basically to Tesla buyers, for it would shut out anything but EV-only cars, and then would (at least in the initial form) also give additional money to take the place of the federal tax credit that will soon disappear for buyers of Tesla (but not for Chevy Bolt or other companies) because Tesla will soon hit 200,000 cars.

And in other EV news, the factory that makes the Bolt will be shutting down on-and-off through the summer because the demand for the Bolt is less than anticipated (honestly, if given a choice, I'd probably chose the Bolt over the Tesla -- I don't like glass roofs, which were included on the Model 3 not for style, but because it made manufacture cheaper -- as robots can reach down in to assemble the car with a glass roof that can be placed on last, as opposed to steel roof, which requires people to get into the car to do some assembly).

Can they change the law for something that’s already in effect. I can see that taking place next year but I got my prime with the expectation that I’d be getting 1.5k back last week. I would be very upset and would try to gather as many people as possible to protest this if they rescind that.

Wow interesting to see what they do, re: CVRP rebate and free HOV.
I suspect we hear something from the Gov by September if it goes like last year's session.

    >>In general they (CA) have always been pro-plug-in of all kinds, so my expectation is that all is well with the CVRP rebate and free HOV, maybe except old PiP might lose HOV in 2019. But I have no inside knowledge.

NOTE: My reading is CVRP funds will re-authorized for 2017-2018 so it is probably just a delay, seems to me.

Obviously sorry to hear that, wish there was money for you and everyone else (I personally know someone else for whom the money has run out as well), but that's why people need to research things about a major purchase themselves. The CA rebate was very well handled and the website was very open and clear about how it works -- that there's a set amount of money, and it's good only until the money runs out. The website even went as far as showing you (to a specific date) how much of the money had been claimed or set aside already. For instance, when I started thinking about getting the Prime, about 51% was taken. Then when I decided to buy the car, 58% had been taken (that's one of the reasons I decided not to wait until later in the year). And they were even decent enough to have the policy of "setting aside" the money for you as soon as you submitted your application, so that one would be assured the $ wouldn't run out during the application processing time. Unfortunately, the money ran out for new claims June 30th, and most dealers probably won't tell you so, because then they'll sell less cars. If it's any consolation though, you got a great car :)

The California rebate delay/waiting list situation is not new. I think you'll probably be ok. Make sure to apply so you'll be in the system.

Per @HPrimeAdvanced above, I don't think we see any problem with CVRP rebates except a delay, they just need to authorize more money. If the CVRP rebate was dead, we'd hear all about it at InsideEV's etc..

I don’t know who in their right mind wouldn’t research a car before buying it. I knew about all of these issues. I just don’t think them renewing evs for now means anything yet for plug ins for the present year.

The worry is not so much about the state rebate. The worry is that the anti-environmental President/Congress will revoke the $4500 federal tax credit, retroactively if they can. Assuming they can be more effective at that than they are with dismantling the Obama health care plan.

Fed tax code is very complicated thing. One of Donald's BFF Elon Musk is ready to deliver his Teslar Model 3 if fed tax credit gets canceled. Model 3 price will jump $7500 instantly which won't be so cheap anymore.

This is what people in marketing call FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt). Do you have anything that backs this up?
