H11 Led Headlight conversion kit (low beam)

Interested as well, the oem halogons are woefully inadequate compared to the xenons in my BMW's and Porsches. I feel like I'm driving around in the dark with the headlights on.

 

I would avoid every kit with a cooling fan, because of the dirt buildup on the vanes. As far as I read, the best cooling is provided with a copper belt, attached at the end of the bulb. I bought a cheap kit from Aliexpress to test if the LEDs can illuminate the road at all (I didn't believe that it would at all...). They light up the road ok, but only if they're not mixed with any other light, for example street lights or other car's halogen headlights. In my opinion cheap 4300K HID kit would be better than expensive LEDs.
I'll attach how my cheap Chinese LEDs perform. You can check the topic at Toyotanation about the test of the HIDs vs LEDs here, there are a lot of photos.

 

Which cheap HID kit did you buy? I saw a link somewhere for a Prius kit and it was 150 bucks, last I checked these cheap kits were 30-40 bucks.

 

Don't search specially for Prius, low beams are regular H11 bulbs. I bought this one, when I purchased it in April this year, it was $21 incl. shipping.

 

Which of the ones on your list (if any) have an actual record of satisfying the regulatory agency (here in US it would be DOT) to confirm the above claims, and which ones do not have the agency seal, or have it with a bogus registration number or one belonging to a different product, or have tiny language somewhere saying "off road use only" ?

That's one way I would begin making up my mind.

21 shipped is stupid cheap but that looks like a LED kit not HID xenon. How do you like the kit? Was it hard to install? Do you have one beam sometimes not come on and you have to turn off the headlights and refire?

 

I cannot agree with that. Prius 3 with halogen headlights has projector type (with lenses) low beams. Between the lens and the reflector, there is a metal plate (it's called cutoff shield), that protects against glare to incoming traffic. Thanks to this plate, every projector type headlight makes that straight line on the top of the illuminated area (for example when the car is against a wall). When the cutoff shield is in a correct position (when nobody has disassembled the headlight) and the headlight is adjusted properly, it cannot blind the traffic.
I'll attach some photos of the upper straight line on a wall and the cutoff shield of an old HID headlight.

Yup, these are LEDs, I meant that a HID kit would be better option in my opinion. They illuminate the road fine UNLESS there is another light source - street lights or other cars with halogen headlights around you.
The installation is like if you're changing the regular bulbs. I used zip ties to attach the modules (they're very small) to the original wiring, the LEDs come with H11 sockets and the installation is no more than plug and play procedure for 10 minutes for the both headlights.
They "fire up" immediately after the switch is turned on (not like the HIDs). They don't blink, start every time, work as they should. I haven't had any problems so far.

 

the sharpness and geometry of that pattern still depend on how well the light source duplicates the dimensions and geometry of the H11 halogen filament and locates it precisely with respect to the focus of the ellipsoidal reflector. Some LED "retrofit" bulbs come a lot closer than others. You can see in the picture of the GTR 3 ULTRA how hard they have tried, with the 3 small LED chips in a line right where the filament would be. Some others have bigger LED chips or a layout where some of the chips are further away from the focus of the reflector.

Even the GTR 3 ULTRA won't quite emit light like the halogen filament, which emits in all directions; that's what the reflector, shield, and lens were designed for. The best they can do by lining up LEDs is approximate that. The DOT testing standards will tell if the approximation was good enough. If Philips got DOT approval for their design, that's excellent news.

I was wonder if you purchased GTR LIGHTING GEN 3 ULTRA SERIES LED HEADLIGHT BULB LED.BUL.GEN3.H11, as you stated.

If you did, can you give some update.

I'm looking to update my headlight from halogen to HID( passenger side keep turning off) to possible LED.
