Just had 1st service done after 1 year

    Tires and brakes ware are real dependent on the road a driver. As said get yourself a tire gauge at any auto parts store. Or just wait for the wear bars to show up on the tires. As to the Prius brakes that in the past never wore out. I would wait until the wear indicator started squeaking.

    You can also find new tire tread depth online, say tirerack. To get a feel for what percent you're at. They're typically around 10/32" new.

    They probably are required to err on the side of caution - eg if they said you had 30,000 miles before the t y r e s need replacement, and you drove like a F1 driver and they were dead in 7000km, they could be standing before the Coroner.

    But I'm certain that they just hope that you'll tell them to $pend up big on repairing unnece$$ary $tuff. I'd go have a look at the tyres and pads yourself.

    On my VOLVO, they told me the 4 wheel pads wouldn't make it to the next service, and that the rotors would need replacing too. I took it to a brake specialist who told me to bring it back in a year, and that at least the rear rotors would pass OK.

    I just got a tire depth gauge for my 2016 Prius with the 15" toyos and performed my own depth test and at 19,000 US miles I was at 6-7mm. I try to take off easy and leave the car on ECO all of the time. If you are hard on the starts I heard the prius can really eat the front tires at take off with the electric and gas motors.

    S'right! What if they don't inflate the radiator and drain the passenger seat sump? Then what would you do? :confused:

    I think if you do 4 tire rotations, say at 10K miles, vs 8 at 5K miles, your tires are going to have about the same wear characteristics. And either way, you're about to dispose of them soon, so all the extra labour is basically cargo cult.

    The only downside I can see, to reduced rotations: if the service department is diligent, and rolls the tire along the slab and inspects the tread for embedded nails, you might catch something sooner. But I doubt they're doing that.

    Disclaimer: I do my own rotations, in conjunction with swapping over to snow tires, every spring and fall. So I guess that's sorta yearly.

    The floor mat check is actually listed in the maintenance checks due to the crazy lawsuits Toyota had in the US when some people used the wrong mats and the caught the accelerator pedal.:eek:

    It's part of my visual safety report that I attached. So they did check that my driver's mat was secure.

    i change the oil once a year, due to low miles. depending on how many, i'll decide on rotation or not.

    Toyota's UK servicing don't even remove the wheels until the second (major) service at 20K miles or two years :(

    I bought a KIA Rio in 2006, had it serviced as per schedule. At the 45.000km/3yr service, when I picked it up, they advised they'd ordered a replacement AFTERMARKET driver's side floor mat as the under-heel vinyl pad was a bit loose. They said it would be covered under warranty as the mat was ordered as part of my order for the car. They rang a couple of days later and said they had to supply all 4 mats, as it's a slightly different grey from the ones I have - free. I thought that was a nice touch.

    I had my 12Mth/20,000 km service done yesterday (done 17,000km).

    When collecting the car, I asked about tyres and brakes. The advisor said "the tyres are barely worn, and the brakes will likely last the life of the car" he went on to add that neither were worth measuring.
