Prius PHV/Prime World Best Selling Plug-In May 2017

    "The global EV market grew 59% in May, to close to 89.000 units, it was the highest YoY monthly growth rate this year, with YTD sales now at 348.000 units and June poised to surpass 100k deliveries, possibly even beating the 103k record of last December, surpassing the one million mark by the end of the year is a given, the question will be, by how much? Will sales reach 1.1 million? 1.2?

    In May, the Best Selling model was the Toyota Prius Prime/PHV, with 7.579 units, a new sales record for the Japanese hatchback, being the first time it wins a Global Best Seller Award,"

    This all-time monthly record for the Prime/PHV was achieved mainly thanks to the fantastic May sales in Japan - 5370, one third of all Prius sales there!

    Curious why Toyota shifted international allocations and incentives in June (mostly to the Japanese market). As a result, availability in the U.S. unexpectedly shrank that month and sales were therefore a bit down here month-over-month.

    Still, great overall numbers for the Prime!

    unfortunately, june u.s. sales took a hit. are you saying availability has dropped here?

    Yes, it had been weakly but slowly growing for months, then:

    ...inventory hit 3-month lows for the Prime in June (averaging less than 700 units for the month), as Toyota looked to fill in inventory at home and around the world, and the result showed in the US, with “just” 1,619 sold.​
