    It is a different steering rack, at 13.7:1 ratio as opposed to 13.4:1 for the 15" wheel cars. I'd also assume differently set stops on the rack.

    And, IIRC, the 15" wheel cars tend to have better roadholding numbers for some reason, too.

    Thanks, I thought that's probable. But interestingly, TOYOTA only ever gives 17" models to motoring journalists to road-test (at least here in Australia - and they've all been RED - called Emotional Red here, but the same as your HyperRed".

    I'm shocked, Consumer Reports didn't pan the 2017 Prius:

    It also includes:
    • Highlander
    • Yaris iA
    • Prius
    In all three cases, they mentioned TSS-P is standard.

    Are crash testing ratings considered "reviews"? IIHS rates Prius Prime Top Safety+ and it edges out against Volt because of the safety equipment coming standard. Tesla Model S and BMW i3 fall short of these top ratings due to various factors. See:

    From the first video, incredulous, unsuspecting reviewer (around 6:20):

    Well, still very good (even for imperial gallons), but likely the number one reason Toyota "tweaks" the mpg display.

    He nails all my negatives: the uneven hatch floor, goofy sculpture of the dash, the abysmal rear visibility. I was dismayed by the first spy shots of the exterior, but the interior just left me numb. Oh well. Next gen??

    To be fair, the Gen 3 was rated at 85 mpg (or 81?) and it never came close. The Gen 4 actually can achieve the EPA/NRC numbers and beat it on occasion (as you recall the screenshot I posted from Aug)

    That only increases the pain. If they could have shovelled the underhood technology into something not far removed from third gen, without Darth front-and-center and white porcelain, I'd be very happy.

    True confession, I'm not conversant in imperial mpg. Ever notice though, how in Canadian car ads, they carry the torch of this archaic system.

    Like the CH-R? or the Prius c? The Camry is Canada's best selling hybrid until... last month or.., well, some time this year when the RAV4 Hybrid took over.

    Of course. It's marketing at its best. They're not lying but it's up to consumer to know they're using imperial MPG (which Canada uses) and not US MPG. But most people will skim over that fact. So a 50mpg Competitor A in someone's mind (after months of US television and "50 mpg" on the Prius) will think, huh, the Competitor A gets the same fuel economy as a Prius. Never mind that's highway mpg and it's a full 1L/100km worse than the Prius.

    But no one's gonna call them for false advertising because it's true. Canada uses imperial mpg and they're not lying about the numbers. (For reference, the Gen 3 gets up to 71mpg). I only saw a handful of those ads back in the early 2010s and they came from a certain group of manufacturers. Haven't seen them since 2014 after gas prices dropped.

    Did the first guy completely miss the mark regarding ECO, PWR and Normal modes? Quibbles though: all in all a candid, first impressions review. (y)

    Second guy, very familiar but my 2 brain cells have lost the name (apologies, Russell?), anyway: this is not a review; he's basically expounding while he happens to be driving in a 4th Gen Prius. But he could just as well be in a Sunfire. (n)

    ABSOLUTELY - quite a few omissions. He didn't understand EV Mode - expected it to somehow be able to drive all day as an Electric Car. He talked about the dashboard display - without mentioning the HEADS UP Display.

    BUT the most glaring error was the PWR Button as you said.

    [Yes, 2nd guy is Russell Frost - you're right, not a review as such, but just showing that the PRIUS is a good everyday car.]

    Oh - and I left him a comment about my observations ...
