Hi all - I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a 2017 Prius and am trying to decide between a 2 and a 3. Can someone answer the following question: when you stop the 2 with the headlights on, and turn the car off, do the headlights automatically turn off, or do you have to turn a knob to turn them off?

Weirdly specific question, I know....it's one of those little annoyances in my current car and I can't figure out from digging around on the Toyota website how this works in the 2 vs 3.

Someone will be along to answer, which is most direct/full response. But just a tip: you can download pdf format Toyota Owner's Manuals, lot of info in there too, albeit buried in 800 pages or so. Google: "Toyota TechInfo", typically first result is the kosher site. Select the "manuals" tab, and fill in the search criteria fields for the vehicle you're interested in.

Welcome to PriusChat! …I'm sure I am not the only reader wondering if you might find the answer to your question by reading the owner's manual. It usually works for me! Good luck with your search and don't hesitate to ask any other soul-searching questions here on PriusChat. ;)

If you have the selector in AUTO (or DRL, depending the model), the lights will remain on for about 30 seconds after powering down the car, then they will turn off automatically.
If you have the selector in any other position (other than OFF of course), then I think they will not furn off automatically.

Are there some now that don't have an OFF position? Have a vague recollection this was mentioned.

Thanks both for the suggestion. I've reviewed the manual and it describes the above as what occurs "if equipped" but does not describe which trims it is equipped in, thus the question for owners of the 2 (or dealers/techs). Screen grab inserted below.

We don't have an off position in the UK, just Auto, Sidelights and Headlights

I have a 2017 Two bought last October. I changed the timer mentioned to turn off immediately. I too was concerned about leaving the lights on.
I did not test the default timer. I wish the car did not have the DRL off position though. Too easy to drive with no lights on.

Great choice! They just added TSS Plus including BSM to the latest 2017.5 Trim Two.

Can you make that change yourself, with 4th gen, or does it require dealership? 3rd gen is per the latter.

I would rather have the spare tire & rear wiper, on the Two, personally.

I have a 17 Two. I agree that having the "DRL OFF" was a poor decision from Toyota. You already have the option in "vehicle settings" to disable the DRL function for those who don't want the added visibility. Toyota began adding an "Off" option to the stalk in 2002. Ever since then, I've seen many more Toyota drivers running with no lights on, even at night. Just an accident waiting to happen.

GM gives the option to turn off the lights too, however it defaults back to "on" after a restart. A much better implementation, IMO.

Toyota did not add it to all vehicles then. My 2008 Corolla does not have DRL off.
