Anyone in Canada tried to get a deposit back from Toyota (not just for a prime)?

I placed a deposit on a Prime in 2016, but I'm having 2nd thoughts. I'm in Ontario Canada and rumour has it Ontario may not be getting Primes, or if we do, with poor government incentive. Granted, the Prime is not officially released anywhere in Canada, and has no MSRP, so it should be no surprise that the Ontario government does not yet recognize it as a vehicle eligible for an incentive. That will change as soon as it's officially released.

Regardless, based on what is announced in may/june regarding MRSP and government incentives, I may try to back out. I'm looking for input from anyone who has tried to do so with Toyota Canada - either successfully or unsuccessfully.

Isn't your deposit with the dealer, not with the parent company? If so, you have to talk to the dealer or the person you dealt with.

You need to speak to the government seat in your province. You should have a department that deals with automobile transactions and consumer protection.
As far as in California, you're entitled to your entire deposit to be fully refunded, unless you special ordered something that does not normally exist.

Yes you're absolutely correct. it's with the dealer, not Toyota Canada. Still, same question - have any advice?

I'm pretty sure Canada does not share your consumer protection regarding deposits on cars. arguably, the dealer has done nothing wrong, and are not obligated to refund my deposit.

From Ontario as well . I left a deposit at Ken Shaw Toyota Toronto for a $1000 on a Prime with the understanding that i could back out at anytime because price and delivery date has not been established as of the time deposit was taken.

These conditions were written into the contract. Also trim package colour of the car all has to be finalized so basically you can walk at anytime.

I'd still check with your government. You haven't done anything wrong either and you don't have a car, nor from the sound of it, a date for receipt of the car. If the dealer can't/won't give you an ETA, you've got nothing; take your deposit back. The deposit just puts you in a queue, but if there's no car, the queue is useless. When I sold Jaguars, they were all pre-orders; there weren't any to be found on dealer lots. But we never cashed the checks until the cars were a week or so out of due date, and we had spoken to the client to reaffirm his order. Hey, you could check with the Massachusetts' dealers and see about buying from them; they apparently have some sensational deals and may be willing/able to help you, eh!

Prime delivery in Canada is apparently delayed until 2018...something to do with Quebec and their zero emissions legislation? My dealer said I could get my $1000 back if I wanted...I decided to keep it there as I'm at the top of the list?!

Did you have written contract stating that your deposit is refundable? If it's just verbal, then you'll be relying on their good heart to return the deposit.

There is only two model up north: Prius Prime ( Plus in USA) and Prius Prime technology (Advanced in USA) and my color is BLIZZARD PEARL ( Blizzard nacré in french). I took a photo from the Toyota site but I'll put mine soon.
I like your alias Pépé le Prime.

It depends on the Provincial legislation. In Alberta, for example, the dealer is obligated to return your deposit. If the dealer won't contact the provincial consumer protection department. The name of this department is different depending on your province, but I'm sure you can hunt it down.

And those darn Quebecois get preferential treatment all the time! ;)

    Well well !!

Seriuos, Toyota said that the marquet for this car is in Québec for the moment because half of électric and plug-in cars are in Québec.

Question of ''gros sous'' ! (money)
