Well not many Prime's around here in Texas ATM but good news comes for those who (have to) wait. The state $2500 EV incentive is back on!!!! I used this program back in 2014 for my Energi (plus the fed tax incentive). My dealer didn't know anything about it so it was really good that I brought all the paperwork and had the F&I person fill in the applicable entries. Electric cars get a new jolt of energy from Texas - Houston Chronicle
Sec.386.154 85(R) SB 26 - Engrossed version - Bill Text Looks like only 2,000 per year and may be retro to 2013.
How does this rebate work? Has to be like an instant rebate off the price since we don't have state tax? It'd be nice to have the Toyota $2500 incentive here as well.
Interesting paragraph "Texas now has about 16,000 electric cars on the road, putting it in the top 10 states for electric vehicles. But Texas - like all other states - lags California, which has more than 240,000 electric vehicles and accounts for more than 75 percent of all U.S. electric vehicles, according to the clean technology website CleanTechnica." Sales in CA are closer to 50% but they say 75% in CA...not sure if that means registered vehicles or what.
Buy it, send in your paperwork proving that, get check back from the state of Texas. Just like the federal tax credit, it has nothing to do with the dealer or the manufacturer as far as pricing or your negotiated deal goes.
quote: "SECTION 44. This Act takes effect August 30, 2017" It looks like we'll have to wait till august to take advantage of the incentive
If there are only 2,000 rebates and they are making it retroactive back to 2013 that makes me concerned it will run out very quickly.
Is the Aug 30 is when we can start submitting or do we need to buy the car after that day (previously purchases doesn't count)??
I've been searching for answers as well but details are limited. It appears all the official government websites still refer to the 2013 version that is no longer valid. Also, most articles I've read mention having to buy the car from a Texas dealer meaning any out-of-state purchases won't qualify.
Where is the specific website that even addresses this program. I've been looking but with no luck. My Prime just got ordered, and I"m planning on not taking delivery until Sept 1, so I'm assured to be able to take advantage of this.
I'm glad you're assured... Good morning and thank you for your email. If signed by the Governor, provisions of SB 1731 related to a purchase or lease incentive program for new light-duty motor vehicles will become effective September 1, 2017. The TCEQ will then be able to develop and adopt rules necessary to implement the program. The details and dates of final rule adoption have not yet been determined. The rulemaking process for this program will include public notice and may include an opportunity for public comments to be received and considered by the TCEQ. We anticipate opening the program at some point after the new year, likely in late winter or early spring. The earliest purchase date for eligible vehicles has not yet been determined. Thank you for your interest in the program. You may sign up for email updates at the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan website to receive announcements for program workshops and opening dates: www.terpgrants.org. The application forms will be posted to this website when the program opens. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please let me know. Hmmm. Well not much I can do except wait and be patient. On a positive note though, at least if I don't take possession til Sept 1, hopefully I'll still fall into whatever time frame they end up choosing for the program. I can't file for the federal tax incentive til after the first of the year, so it looks like I'll end up waiting til that time to file for both. b
Well the bill has been passed by the Senate...House needs to pass it then the Governor needs to sign it....So it has a way to go SB 26 - Texas 85th Legislature (2017) - Open States
Texas restores $2,500 electric-car purchase rebate, except for Teslas They didn't provide a source, but the Green Car Reports article says these things: If these are true, it does not seem there are good prospects for us current owners and out-of-state buyers...
I'm thinking/hoping that article has the dates info wrong. Per the above response from the person that oversees the program, That tells me that they don't know for sure when the purchase has to be made, and gives me some hope that they won't totally cut out the entire 2017 year. But then again, who knows when it comes to politics.
