    Hey guys.

My car was in storage for two months and I took it out for a spin. Noticed a metallic rumble sound like pots and pans coming from the front of the car when hitting small bumps. A day later, I went over a speed bump (at normal speed) and heard something fall off. Stopped the car and picked up this piece that broke off.

The sound is now gone but I am wondering what this part is and if it is essential. I have to wait until Tuesday to take my car into the dealer so any help now would be great.

    Thanks!

If it’s made of metal and came from your car, it’s most likely a piece of one of the coil springs, an essential part of the suspension. You can see these in the parts catalog figures for Front Spring & Shock Absorber and Rear Spring & Shock Absorber. If the noises were coming from the front, it’s probably a front coil spring that’s broken, of course.

To avoid further damage, I’d suggest having this fixed promptly. The repairs aren’t especially complicated, but some special service tools are required, so it’s probably a job for the dealer or a repair shop.
