2017 Prius Prime Photos

Very short sighted on Toyota's part. People carry things back there that could be dangerous or heavy if there's an emergency stop or an accident.

Case in point... say I place a 2.5 gallon gas can back there so I can get gas for the lawn mower. I need that to not fall over or move at all. Or I want to drive the Al-Can highway. I want to at least have a donut spare with me. What about heavy luggage?.

I wonder if I drill and install my own D-rings along the side? Anyone know what is involved?

A few hatchback/wagon/SUV don't have tie downs, or at least ones actually useful. I even like having them in trunks.

I use the latch points for the seat backs when they are down, and the car seat anchors can be an option. If there isn't any D-rings, and you want to install your own, you'd want to be get behind the plastic where it is being mounted to use a washer back there, or at least a screw with really deep threads. Anything else might just pull out when least wanted.

Yeah, that's a bad move if it's true. I use them from time to time with ratchet straps to hold down things that would otherwise tip over easily.

 

I do miss the auto up tailgate that my wife's car has. If your arms are full of bags, just waive your foot under the bumper and the tailgate goes up. Nice feature.

Same situation for me. I need the d-ring. Would love to put one in the same place as the older Prius 2. Did you do the retrofit ?

 

Not a good idea to carry gas on top of an electric battery.

 

No, it sure isn't. Toyota, though, placed a very big battery over a gas tank.

Checking a Prime at a dealer recently confirms there are hidden fold down clips that bungie straps can connect to. They're plastic, but seem pretty firm.

 

I use my Prime for work and needed a way to secure a ladder in the back. Since Toyota decided to not bless us with a tie-down or d-ring, I needed to add one myself.

At the very rear there is small mushroom likely to hold a bungee cord. If you pull out the mushroom, you will see a screw. Take out that screw. Take out the screw insert if you need something stronger. The plastic screw insert can only hold so much weight. You will need to pull out come of the panel clips to allow access to the back of this screw area. Using a 5/16 threaded stock with a bolt and washer, pass it through the hole from the back. (The hole is just at 5/16.) Your threaded rod can't be too long or you will never get it threaded through the plastic opening the original bolt came from where it passes through the interior plastic. Tighten it down with a lock washer and bolt from the exterior side.

Cut threaded rod to size.

On the end I used an eye nut to be my attachment point.

Wow, that is amazing.

 

Huskers is back! How was Disneyworld?

 

Amazing. They spend 60 million on fireworks a year. Crazy. Walked over 18,000 steps a day for 7 days. Car stayed at in my brother's garage all safe and sound. Good mileage that way. Trip was fun but those rides can take it our of you. Glad to be back home and seeing who got their cars since I was gone.

Oh, and I looked every day to see a Prime in the wild. They were a no show.

 

Delivery of my wife's Prime is expected within the next few days. Then, we'll have a red one to add to the photos.

 

His and Hers Primes. Sounds like a love story in the making.

 

Anybody have pictures with the body side moldings? My exterior color choice is blue magnetism but pictures of any exterior color should help me decide if I want these.
