No, I have not yet purchased. I am going for $29638, for an advanced prime. No dealer is offering such a deal, in fact they feel it as an insult to them that I am asking for such a price. One of such dealer was NJ DCH Burlington. I am now removing dealers from the list, with whom I should not do business and narrow my search to two or three dealers.

How is this possible to get a $12K less than MSRP?

Let me know if you know of a good dealer in NJ-NY-Philly area?

    it looks like $3,500. discount + $2,500. rebate + $4,500. fed tax credit + $1,500. ma credit = $12,000.

Before TTL would be 27,1xx - 2500 = 24,6xx. The 1 yr maintenance was negotiated in, so I don't know the value. But really it amounts to just 1 oil change.

Looks like that you are a good negotiator, as the price is really good. What is your technique. I am assuming that you have done a lot of research before going to the dealer.

Someone posted on this forum a link which compares the Prius Prime to Chevy Volt. Worst part they said is that entering into a freeway with a Prius is scary saga. That comparison is now making me think twice that if I am making the right choice by going to Prius Prime. I am not sure if I can ask the dealer to test drive on a freeway, so that I can feel it myself.

It is not scary, depending on the mode you are in. I find that EV mode has more oomph in entering freeways, but there is a mileage hit. In normal or power mode it is not scary at all. Eco mode, you just have to hit the pedal harder than the other modes but it is not a snail.

We also have a BMW i3-REx but live in an area of relatively easy traffic. But I remember the challenges of driving in the DC area yet even in a minivan, I never really felt there was a problem. Still, it is important that you feel comfortable with the car.

Explain your concern to the dealer and negotiate a test drive. Personally, I don't see a problem but I already have a Prius Prime and never chose the BMW i3-REx over it for acceleration into freeway traffic.

If you really feel you need a pocket rocket: deadspin-quote-carrot-aligned-w-bgr-2

The BMW i3-REx does cross country like a motorcycle, lots of short segments, but otherwise is a fine car in the 150 mile range.

Whoever is commenting that the Prius Prime is "scary" when accelerating onto the freeway is either full of low grade, highly packed manure (I'm really struggling here to be polite!!), or they're complaining about whiplash from the brutal G-forces of the acceleration!. I'm sure it's the latter!! Just let me get my hands on this pablum-spewing cretin and I'll severely rearrange his/her opinion!! Just the other night, I was driving on Brookhurst in Anaheim alongside one of the new model Jaguar sedans who was kicking up a very noisy fuss keeping up with me as I silently and elegantly drove alongside from 30 to 60 miles an hour, for a couple miles.
No fuss, no muss, smooth and silent, the Prime was definitely the classier of the 2 automobiles! BTW, the Prius is the highest rated car for reliability of ANY car by Consumers Report. It has plenty of power; I've had my Prime up to 105 (this is our secret!), and the puppy had plenty in reserve!

I didn't do much research, other than did a truecar query and called a few dealers for availabilty and price of the trim and color that I want. I then went back to the dealership near me- I went in for test drive previously so the salesperson knows I'm a serious buyer. They didn't match the lowest price but I rather deal with this place since I'm only 5 miles away. Luckily with all the hiccups and having to go back to the dealership multiple times, it wasn't too cumbersome.

When the fiasco happened with the dings and scratch, I pretty much kept calm as much as possible. Luckily the Gen Mgr is really good to deal with and I could tell he wants to do the right thing. At that point, getting upset and being a pain wasn't going to help. I only did a little negotiation on top of the offer they gave me- I want to be fair too.

As for the acceleration, it's no worse than another similar size car. I'd speculate that typical Prius drivers watch their mpg like a hawk and let off from full throttle on purpose to keep from wasting gas which lowers their braggable mpg numbers. If you floor it, the car will go quick.

You're likely running in Eco Mode. The accelerator is not as responsive. Try Normal or PWR Mode. I usually drive my Gen 4 on Normal because Eco is too sluggish. The driving mode affects the resume speed of DRCC too.

Take both for test drives and let your a$$ make the decision.

You're absolutely on the money! I keep my Prime as I did my 2012 PIP, in ECO mode most of the time 'cause I'm a cheap SOB, but when I want to have fun, I hit POWER mode! That's the great thing about this car; it's not boring!! You have all these bells and whistles and you can drive it like a crippled snail, or to can instantly crank her up to "dodge" around traffic when you need to!! Another little helper this car has, is the ability to rush up to speed to get through a yellow light in whisper mode, so you don't arouse the ire of the local gendarmes!! Pepe le Prime is having much fun!!

I know there was 1 Gen 4 user in California that claimed to get better mpg in PWR mode. For me the radar cruise is too sluggish in Eco mode. I now find it slightly sluggish in Normal mode.
My son who has a 2015 Prius v thinks my Eco mode is about the same as his PWR mode, FWIW.

I agree with this totally, its like the Prime has a dual personality. I definitely have experienced the yellow light blast.
I was late to work this morning and decided heck with watching the ECO monitor and drove as fast as traffic would allow.

For Prime Advanced the final cost I am getting is $30,195 + TTL. Is this a good price in NJ. This price already included the $2500 rebate. It also included the door guard and all weather mat. in the price. TTL is extra.

In NJ apart from NJ Tax, asking for $309 documentation fee +$315 for something else + another $6.15 for per tire tax. Do these additional costs looks reasonable. Did anyone in NJ paid the extra $315 for something relating to inspection sticker.

I hate this entire car buying process and now dealers don't even show pricing certificates on TrueCar.
