I'm looking to get a 2017 (or may be 2018 by then) Prius Prime as a gift for my mother around November 2017 time frame (although that is flexible). Have a few questions hope you guys can guide me. 1) Generally, what is the best time frame to purchase this car? It looks like there isn't any incentive for this model right now in Houston, TX. 2) What is the best price that you guys are paying now? I'm planning just to get the Premium package for her (MSPR $28,800). Are you guys paying MSRP now? 3) Are we still qualify for federal tax incentive ($4,500)? Thanks all.
Well Fall tends to be the best time, if the 2012 PiP sales are any indication. But Prime seems to be in good demand right now, so its hard to say. YES you get the $4500 tax credit assuming you qualify...there is no end in sight for that incentive at the moment.

You qualify if you have at least $4500 tax liability (taxes you owe). This is a good basic explanation:
Yes fall. You may be able to get a deal on the 2017 model as the 2018s are coming (Although it depends if they're able to get some inventory at the dealerships. Right now, they're tight on inventory). Check out the "thread for confirmed prices". People have been posting their prices there. "If you qualify" means that you have to owe at least $4,500 in taxes to get the money back. It's a tax credit not a rebate so it basically covers your next year's taxes up to $4,500.
I got $1,000 Toyota rebate and $700 discount from the dealer, so $1700 off MSRP. But I bought mine in L.A.
If you qualify also means IF the EV tax credit survives tax reform plan.... Will electric vehicle credits survive federal tax reforms? - San Francisco Chronicle Congress can still repeal these credits for tax year 2017.
