    Does that apply to the Prius Prime? I don't see any deals on that vehicle.

    The manager agreed to fix everything, Plus gave me a small price reduction and extras. Went to inspect and it looked perfect a week later. HOWEVER, today had been 2 days since - day of pick up- car has been registered and inspected night before... I found there is a 2 inch slash in the paint, like someone took a razor blade and deliberately made a cut where the roof rail is. I'm like ... What the F...k!

    Now I'm waiting on what the dealership is willing to do.

    Man, I feel for you. Has the car been in your possession for the 2 days (as of the date of your post)? If so, dealer may disavow responsibility (is the car garaged?). Take photos. A lot will depend on what dealer will do. Is Sales Manager directly involved in helping you? You could call Toyota Corporate to ask for advice. The lawyer is the VERY last resort if nobody's helping you. What a shame, for you and your new car experience!

    Luckily I've never taken possession. It had been in the dealership or at the body shop- all under their control. Weird thing is... My sales person and the manager said they inspected it just 3 hrs before I got there. There's no way the slash can be missed since that's right behind where the orig dent was located.

    Is it time they went to an optometrist?
    Or perhaps they're stretching the truth; didn't really inspect the car, or thought you might miss the new problem. I'm not there and it's not my money; try asking your financing institution what they think. This is not how an expensive new car purchase should go! My worst car experience (I was the salesman!), occurred when the lady who bought a new Corolla from me, drove her car out the driveway, only to have the front bumper struck by a speeding car!! S..t happens! This razor blade type of damage sounds like it could be a problem. If you still plan on taking the car, can you get an INDEPENDENT bodyshop specialist to make recommendations; how to repair and warranty (lifetime?). As I've said before in this forum, it's about trust and ethics. Your money, your decision.

    Sorry I missed this question. I financed at 1.9% through Toyota, which was the lowest rate they offered when I bought and I have tier 1 credit. So I took $1500 manufacturer rebate, and the rest was dealer discount,. And then of course I got the $1500 MA rebate, $4500 Fed tax credit.

    This car is just bad karma. With this razor blade cut (or whatever it was) to the roof panel, I absolutely won't take the car. The manager had been very reasonable, fortunately and I have no doubt he wants to do the right thing.

    Unfortunately, a Plus version is hard to locate (something must have changed since 2 weeks ago when dealerships had an abundance of them and was willing to give me a good price). They were going to get another Plus from a local dealership but that car got sold. I'm going to ask them to give me a Premium (for no add'l money), which they have off their lot tomorrow if they can't locate a Plus.

    Btw, the damaged car had been registered to me yesterday and I asked them to cancel the registration. My insurance won't let me remove the policy till that's done. Wonder if they have to sell it as a used car after it gets repaired since record will show that it had a previous owner.

    Very good advice. Walking away from the deal, is probably I will do, as soon as I know that the dealer is not willing to offer the full discount. Few year back, I did the same on Dec 31st, and walked out of the dealership, but never got the call back.

    So far I am trying to get as much documentation and email confirmation from vendors.

    Someone told me that try to buy the car near the end of the month, when the dealers have to meet the expected sales target. End of this month will be more special because of the Toyota Cash Back is ending, so it may not work this month.

    Right now Toyota is offering $2500 cash back on the Prius Prime in your area (wow... yes, the east coast is $2500, in California it is only $1000).

    Select the PRIUS PRIME, then scroll down to where it says Cash Back.

    For the month of May, you have the option of:
    (a) $2,500 cash back or

    (I'd take the $2,500 cash back and finance it yourself through a local credit union or bank, not the dealer).

    NOTE: while these specials can come and go, you shouldn't feel too much pressure to buy now... the current promotion has been around for a couple months now, so chances are it'll be around for June as well. Toyota announces their monthly promotions the 1st Tuesday in the month. So if you don't buy by the end of May, not a big deal, check back after the first Tuesday in June, and you'll see what June's promotions are (no guarantee, but most likely similar to what it's been for April and May).

    Don't let the dealer rip you off. Walk out and go to another dealer. You're eligible for $2,500 cash back from Toyota -- so even if the dealer is charging you full MSRP, your "out the door" price (before tax) should still be about $2,500 LESS than MSRP (plus a few small fees). Walk away as soon as the crap starts. They'll call you back. If not, go to another dealer. The car isn't THAT rare...

    The very last day of the month is really when all of us at the dealership would push to make those last sales for bonuses. Management would frequently give extra bonuses for sales on the last day of the month. The dealership needed to get rid of as many cars as possible, to avoid having to pay flooring (bank financing), on those cars. But again as Stevepea advised, always be prepared to walk out on any deal where you feel cheated.
    BTW, It was just announced on the news that Toyota had a 20% drop in profits this year. I think you're going to be in a very good position to buy your car for a low price. Again, good luck!

    Yes, very good advice from Stevepea, just walk away. It seems like as the mid of month is nearing and now most dealers know that I am in the market, so the daily calls to me has increased. If the news is correct that Toyota has 20% drop in profits, then that is also big news. It is excellent to learn that dealers have to pay flooring fees, so they have incentive to get rid of cars from the floor. I will definitely wait till the end of month before making any decision. This thread is very educational and helpful.

    I wonder if the 20% dip in profit will have the opposite effect that we would hope for; that is, Toyota will need to make up the difference somehow by either raising MSRP prices slightly, lowering the holdback amount or by trimming rebates come June 1. I realize that the profit amount is built into the invoice to dealers rather than a direct relationship to the amount the dealer actually sells the car. So, I think the question is how will Toyota, who has a fiduciary responsibility to its share holders to maximize profit, find someway to fix its profit decline. Will it raise the invoice price; will it raise the MSRP, or; will it eliminate rebates and finance incentives? It will be interesting to see what the rebates and finance incentives look like in June. If the cars are selling as well as it seems, it's counterintuitive that Toyota is offering such large rebates in the Northeast.

    prime profits have near zero affect on toyota's bottom line. a multi national corporation their size is beyond the scope of us trying to figure out what is wrong.
    they will make whatever adjustments they can to income, expenses and tax stays, but it's a competitive marketplace, and you can't just raise prices to solve all your problems.

    Most profits come from the big trucks and Suv's. They # of Primes sold are too small to make a dent on the balance sheet no matter what they do. They probably need to sell x number to satisfy gov mandates so they can sell more big trucks.

    The dealership got a red color w Moonstone Premium and offered it to me. Price diff btw the original Plus and this Premium is $2100, so I paid $1k more and took it. The car literally came off the truck with 4 miles on the odometer. Very happy it turned out this way. Red is not my fav color but it's better than waiting forever for another one and at least it's not the blue which I dislike completely. I also got an extra year maintenance as well.

    Here is the price for the Premium, with all weather package, door edge guard and wheel locks ($30,5xx MSRP)
    Selling price: $27,1xx before $2500 rebates and Fed/St tax credits
    OTD: $26,765 including TTL & 1 extra yr maintenance.

    I have to say the manager at Bernadi Toyota in Framingham MA was very fair and accommodating. No one wanted all the drama with the initial car (which they got from another dealership) and I really appreciate how they handled the situation to make me a satisfied customer.

    Wow, that looks like a great deal. If you remove TTL and 1 extra year of maintenance, then how much it has costed you for a Premium

    if i'm reading this correctly, you got your prime for $12,000. less than msrp, plus ttl.
