Problem after replacing 12V battery

    Hi there
    After replacing 12 v batter in my 2005 Prius the car is acting weirdly. I have a triangle of death and 3 warning signs on display: one with battery, second with car and exclamation mark and third with battery and main write in the bottom, see the picture.
    The car dies after few seconds running.
    Any thoughts?

    Why did you replace the 12V battery?

    You may need to get codes read with a Toyota scanner. (Most scanners will not read Prius-specific codes, especially those relating to the hybrid system.) Without the codes, we're guessing.

    Do you have a full tank of fuel? Have you checked the engine oil and coolant?

    What 12 V battery did you use to replace the old one? Did you ensure the new 12 V battery was fully charged before installing?

    Remove the earth cable from the car body and double check the connections at the +ve and -ve poles are clean and tight. Double check any other connections you may have disconnected are reinstalled correctly and are firmly in place.

    Check the body earth connection is clean on both the cable and car body and reattach and ensure it is tight.

    After that, see if you get any lights returning. If you get any warning lights come back, you will need to have the codes read, or, as Andrew says, it is all guess work.

    The European models have slightly different displays than the American models but I'm guessing the car is in master alarm and is throwing a 12 volt battery alarm and a hybrid battery alarm.
    Guessing it needs a hybrid battery replaced and spdiesnt like the new 12 volt battery you installed.
    Like Andrew says you need to get All the cides pulled and post them back here.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
    I changed the battery as the old ones was not holding the charge. When I left the car for 2 or more days, I had to jump start it.
    I am getting my friend with the scanner tomorrow so will see if any errors come up and will post it here. His scanner reads Prius codes as he checked it couple of years ago.

    Engine oil and collant levels seems to be OK and the i have over half a tank of petrol.

    I have used new generic battery from Halfords and it is fully charged.
    I have reinstalled the battery ensuring all is clean and no cables are missed.
    I guess will have to wait for the error codes

    Not all 12v batteries will work well with the Prius. If your battery isn't rated as deep cycle, that could be causing a problem

    Have you checked the voltage at the new battery with the car in ACC mode? Is it an AGM battery?

    The guy with the scanner didn't make it and now I am on family holiday for 3 weeks, I will have checked everything once I am back.

    Looks like a problem with the battery charging circuit in the inverter. Measure voltage at 12V battery with car "Ready".

    I have changed couple of fuses and it drives now, however there are still errors, VSC and brake errors and the battery errors on the display.
    I had it checked at Toyota. they say DC DC converter needs to be replaced and it will cost me £2200!!!!
    I think it is time to buy a new car...

    The root cause of the inverter failure probably was a botched jumpstart where the battery polarity was reversed. The best solution as bisco suggested is to buy a used inverter on eBay and install it.
