So I thought I would save myself a couple bucks and replace my cabin air filter in my 2010 Prius. Watched the video on Priuschat and successfully removed the glove box and replaced the filter. After removing the glove box, however, the shock absorber that connects to the glove box came out and fell on the floor. I tried several times to try to put it back for for the life of me I cant figure out how it connects to the frame above IMG_0966.JPG the glove box. I understand and did correctly undo the piston part before removing the glove box but I don't see how the other side of it connects. Anyone have any ideas or come across this problem?

Seems that the filter is loosely shoved into the housing - is anyone concerned with leak by? My old Camry had a frame to guide it in and hold it in place.
My friend reported that the dealer tech pinched the filter after checking it, while shoving it back in, creating an air gap. Now he has some leaves trapped in the HVAC systems that makes noise but wont come out. It is an 09 Corolla with a similar design.

There should be a stud straight up from the stud on the glove box door that the strut pops onto.

It has been quite a while since you have posted your problem concerning how to attach the glove box shock absorber so if you have not figured it out yet here is how to do it. I had exactly the same problem and I thought I would never figure it out. The absorber has 2 holes. You attach it to the 2nd hole and then pull out the end of the absorber and attach it to the door. There is a post to attach the other end to that is easy to see. Just do it that way, be patient and you will eventually get it. Good luck.

Does anyone have a part number for this piece? Or know where I can get a replacement? I will ask next time I'm at the dealer, but I don't go very often. I think mine went missing after a jiffy lube employee pulled it to show me that I needed my cabin filter replaced.

    Dan,
I must be 2013 Prius Plugin challenged! I tried to follow the answers and your photos on how to get this piece reattached, but so far, no luck. The stud, I think, it’s supposed to attach to seems too large and I don’t want to break the piece by forcing it. I’ve attached 3 photos for help.

I had the same problem reattaching a Gen 3 lower glovebox. danlatu's photo with "A" and "B" labels is very helpful, EXCEPT that I had to rotate the "shock absorber" so that the cylinder faces up and hole "A" faces down.

Thank you for these photos. Your A & B told me exactly what I needed to know.

As usual, I was trying to make things difficult and had my head halfway inside the dash assembly looking for 2 likely attachment points. Next time I change my own cabin air filter, I’ll wrestle it a little less and finesse it a little more.

    This success deserves champagne!
