Glare on 11" screen- do tints help?

Wait until you turn a corner. The 11" screen tilted at that angle is not one of Toyota's better engineering ideas. (My Mazda with a conventional instrument panel and smaller screen at a better angle is a much better interior design.)

 

I got the darkest legal tint in my state at 35% carbon ceramic tint. I got ceramic to reduce temperature for the the cabin for the passengers going in right away and for the Hybrid battery. I also added tint to the top part of the windshield. With both done, I haven't had a glare problems. I couldn't use metallic tint because reflective tint is illegal in my state.

I assume you mean "tinted glass" for the car windows. I've used the "medium" shade metallic tint on all my windows in all my cars here in California for over 20 years. The material comes with a lifetime warranty not to fade or peel and I've found that it substantially reduces the cabin temperature of all my cars, while providing increased privacy. I usually pay under $300 for all windows. My 2012 PIP even had the windshield tinted for considerably more. I wouldn't recommend this: too much money and fussy about cleaning and attaching suction cup holders. My Prime Advanced has the metallic medium tint and I suppose it's mainly responsible for my not having noticed screen glare in 99% of cases. The tint does add mystery and elegance to this luxury automobile.

My Tinting Shop called my tint metallic, but it's not reflective like a mirror; you can't see a sheen. He didn't offer the dye tint which he says is the one that turns purple with age. He did offer the ceramic, but for considerably more and he couldn't really show me any difference. The claim is that it more effectively blocks solar rays. I've been very happy with the other stuff and stayed with it. In California, any tint, other than factory is technically illegal, but the cops don't usually do anything about it. If they need it, I guess it can give them a reason to stop you. .
But we're Prii drivers, nerds by definition, and we wouldn't hurt anyone, unless of course, they were Volt or Ioniq drivers.!, har, har!

Ok. Lol. It cost me $260 for the back and sides, and cost me another $70 for the front windshield. With the ceramic tint, I can feel the difference in the car. Of course, it still gets warm in the car as much as it is outside the car, but not like an oven. I also have a reflective sunshade for the windshield to help also. Don't have any shaded parking spots at work.

One more advantage claimed for ceramic tint is that it won't cause interference with radio and cellphone reception like metallized films. In theory, putting a cellphone in a metal cage (Faraday cage) will screen out RF signals.

Very reasonable price for front windshield; my "barber" clipped me for over $200 for that, and you couldn't clean it easily and it broke down where I'd attach my suction cup mount. They wanted about $500 for ceramic tint for the windows!
I'm sure it's better than what I got, but mine's good enough for most days, and I'm a cheap SOB!

I have had absolutely no problem whatsoever with phone reception in my cars (5+) with metallic tint that was put on my cars, aside from the normal problems everyone has with reception. In fact, the reception in my car is generally far better than the reception in my house in Anaheim where I've had to get "boosters" etc. to improve reception.
Typically I'm on my phone in my car 75% of the time and drive 1-2 hours daily.

40% ceramic tint on all four doors and rear glass. Ceramic really cuts down on the UV infiltration into the cabin and keeps it cooler. Screen glare is not ideal but I don't have any issues seeing it in any light conditions. And I don't look at it often while driving, especially since the things I find important are mostly duplicated on dash and HUD.

I think this tint is more than 20%, the guy called it medium; I'm guessing 35%. Remember, the Prime already has a pretty good gray tint from the factory to which is added this medium tint. Also note that there is no metallic sheen.

Suction cup mounts are illegal in California. But that's just a sick bird so I guess it's ok.

 

Hunh? I'm not aware of the suction cup thing. I keep my Garmin in the lower left corner of my windshield; been like that on all my cars for over 20 years, and several speeding tickets (Alfa Romeos and Type R!). Cops never said a word.
As far as I know, my bird is fine and flying high!
