Communication module inop

    The service department just contacted me back on my Safety Connect issues. They want me to drop the car off on Monday while a regional field rep. is at the dealership. They will work with the regional field rep. on my safety connect issues, including discussing the possibility of reprogramming the DCM with a valid Mobile Identification Number/Mobile Directory Number as I mentioned in the previous post. So, maybe by Monday afternoon this will be all over. :unsure:

    So the problem is with the cell account information. MIN/MDN is just a fancy way of referring to a phone number. (MIN is a permanent number that is unchanged when number porting is done, and the MDN is the actual phone number one would use to call the phone.) Something changed with the cellular account used by Safety Connect, and the communication module in the car has to be reconfigured. It is really screwy if the phone number was changed. o_O

    Just an FYI, having this same issue with the Prime I just picked up a week ago here in California.

    Someone in the Safety Connect group at Toyota must have dropped the ball in a bad way, for all these cars to lose their cell service.

    I just checked my Prime, and the Safety Connect light comes on green, and the Advanced apps work. I have had the car for a couple of months. I am in the Sacramento area.

    so....is the issue with recent purchase of primes? I got my Prime November 30th 2016 and so far no issues with communication module

    Mine is in the shop wating for a call back from Toyota SOS.

    For those who have yet to take their vehicle into shop, if your srvice advisor does not know how to start a case in Toyota Tech Support, demand to speak to the service manager or general manager.

    So apparently it's not just east coast, it's seemingly random and no one knows what the problem is.

    This is why they invented happy hour.....

    Yeah, don't let them tell you "never seen this before". There is an issue with the cell phone setup, and until the Safety Connect group sorts it out and provides corrective actions to the dealer, there is no need to fuss with the car, since that isn't going to fix the problem.

    So......is everybody's communication module issue from 4/28? any later dates? So far mines still working 5/5

    It seems that those who are effected all first saw the behavior on 4/28.

    This is like the 1st born of Egypt being taken. I put lamps blood on my Prime. I want it to pass my by.

    Mine also seems to be working. I was just able to check the charge status with the entune app.

    I went ahead and filed a NHTSA complaint.

    Maybe one day Safety Connect will sit down in a meeting room with Tech Support and git 'er done.

    Attached is the service bulletin for the 2014 Highlander issue I described previously. The write-up is similar to the problem I am having with my Prius Prime Safety Connect not working. It shows how to verify the condition and what was done to correct that problem back in 2014. I will be providing this to my dealership service department on my Monday appointment to see if it could assist with my problem.

    Thanks for that service bulletin.

    Deep in the document it says that 167 vehicles are affected my this malfunction. that's certainly a small percentage of total Highlander, Avalon, Avalon hybrid and Sienna vehicles sold that year.

    I got a call from dealer yesterday saying a field rep would be in this week.

    Call came suspiciously soon after I posted about filing NHTSA complaint.....

    No joy. According to the service rep, reprogramming the communication module did not correct the safety connect connectivity problem. They then pulled out the communication module. The region field rep took it back to his facility and will return back tomorrow with a new one to see if installing the new one will correct the issue. They are keeping my car for now and provided me with a loaner.
