Don't do it, lol...have you tried rebalancing/reconditioning? I'm in the process of doing so on my '07. Seems like just from threads here MANY people have had luck rebalancing/reconditioning for our cars.
The words "used" and "reconditioned" can mean many different things. It can be very difficult to compare all the options. In general you will get what you pay for. $350 might get you a pack that has simply been put through some charge/discharge cycles and no warranty. $2,000 might get you a pack with 3 year unlimited mile full replacement warranty. In both cases they are NOT NEW. There are plenty of scammers out there ready to rip you off with cheap prices on complete junk. (I even wrote a thread on PriusChat exposing one scammer.) Buyer beware.
I was not going to mention any new pack prices, since he asked specifically about used/reconditioned.
good point. how much should i pay is a difficult question to answer, in this context. i'm tempted to say 'nothing'.
That's a non-specific question, used and reconditioned are COMPLETELY different and neither is the same as "rebuilt". However, to more completely answer your question: Used: $350 (w/30 day "DOA" warranty) Reconditioned: $850 w/12m/12k warranty Rebuilt: $1350-$1550 w/24m/unl warranty Installation extra and most importantly, purchasing from a KNOWN vendor with a good reputation will increase these prices some, because it COSTS MORE to "Make It Right"! Now, those prices are not representative of the "worth" of the battery, because IMO the only two choices for 99% of folks are New or Rebuilt installed by a reputable shop. This makes the value of used or reconditioned packs about $350 - the value of the 28 modules as cores.
