After 250,000 miles (Update: now 293,000), should I just drive it 'til it drops?

I see you have a 2005, have you had the Combination Meter updated so it will roll over to 300,000?

You would need a 2006+ combination meter to see 300k+

It was from the Toyota dealership, programmed and straight from Japan.

Combination meter was replaced by Toyota back in January of 2013 so we are good to go! :) Hopefully, it will surpass the 299,999 that the original CM would register.

As Aaron said above, if it is a Toyota replacement it will likely not rollover. I was thinking of the retrofit that Texas Hybrid Batteries does where they a retrofit a newer (2006-2009) combination meter and light cluster onto an older (2004-2005) model.

See the "Combination Meters that stop at 299,999 miles, Who's affected and what you can do about it." link in my sig to read about what's involved.

Well, here we are in May. The ol' Prius made it past the 300,000 mile mark but I am waiting for the odometer to catch up. I am currently at 300,258 actual miles while the odometer reads 298,731.You see, the dealership would not add the 1527 miles that the car traveled while the combination meter was non-functional. When they replaced the combination meter they would only transfer the mileage that was on the old CM even though I insisted that they add the 1527mi. Looking forward to see what happens when the car hits 299,999.9. If the odometer stops there, I will be back to manually keeping track of my travel distance with the trip meter. Still no problems... keeps on ticking!

I would like to update the title of the thread again but there is no way to do this!

The odometer hit 299,999 at 2:22pm today...and stopped there. I guess we will have to use the trip odometer... o_O Bad move on the part of Toyota. When the CMs were changed out, they should have designed the replacements to go up to 999,999. On a positive note, the car continues to drive without problems. Up to 301,535 miles now. How long can this car possibly go? Will I make it through the summer?

Our endless spring is going to help that old HV battery survive another summer! Congrats on joing the 300k club.

HAH! Made it through the summer and she keeps on rolling! Closing in on 312,000 miles driven (actual is 311,601). I should hit 312,000 by the end of the weekend. This car is unbelievable! I've read so many posts lately about hybrid battery failure (especially in the 04 - 06 MY), I thought that I'd cheer everyone up by sharing some GOOD news! Keep on rolling! What are the odds that it will see Spring?

I guess I should give an update on what's been going on over the summer:

Bought a 2014 Prius V (5) for my son and now have the '08 Prius back in my hands. The '08 (168,000 miles) had a blow out at the manifold gasket at 3 out of 4 cylinders. Replaced with a new manifold today. I recently have been having similar issues with the HV battery on a few occasions since getting the car back in late August. The charge drops to two purple bars and then climbs to 6 or 7 blue bars within 4 miles. The 12v was replaced on this car last year. I am keeping a close eye on it. I re-read this entire thread and hope that like the '05, it was just a fluke. Gas mileage has not changed, no HV fan activation and no codes thrown.

As far as the '05, the muffler was replaced in the Spring right before inspection. Oil and filter changes continue at 5,000 mile intervals. My hood cable release snapped in July. Replaced it in a few hours. The most difficult was gaining access and getting the hood to open!

I plan on getting a new 12v battery (it's been 6 yrs and 4 mos since the last OEM battery was installed in June of 2011) and switching out to winter tires in another 4 weeks with the arrival of below freezing temperatures...

You drive a lot more miles than me! I'm up to 251,000 now and I do continue to burn oil. I do live in Wisconsin so I am a little concerned about wheel bearings. I have pretty much done nothing except oil changes and buy tires. I drive my car every day, my mileage averages around 43 mpg. What I'm concerned about that you might be able to give me your opinion on, or anyone else can for that matter is should I be looking into changing any other fluids like radiator, transaxle, and inverter. I have no idea what was done before I got it except a recall, I believe something to do with the inverter pump not even completely sure. You and all that post in this thread sure seem like you all could give some good advice and suggestions
