For those of you who own Primes already, you might go over to evtripplanner.com and enter some of your known routes, select a vehicle (I've been experimenting with Leaf Beta since it doesn't have the Prime) and see if the "route miles" calculated matches your known miles used for your route. Be sure to set the temperatures.

Is it accurate using one vehicle or another? Can it be used to estimate the range of the Prime and how many "route miles" it will consume in real life?

    My first comparison:

    21.7 miles actual distance.
evtripplanner set to Leaf Beta said I would use 16 range miles.
My Prime claimed I only used 12.5 range miles.

    Second one:

11.1 miles actual distance, with an almost 700 foot net climb.
evtriplanner set to Leaf Beta said I would use 12 range miles.
My Prime claimed I used 12.8 range miles.

The math on this is kind of shocking.

Let's say the 12.5 range miles used is half of the battery (25/2). Half of 6.3kWh is 3.15kWh.

    21.7 miles / 3.15kWh = 6.9 miles/kWh

    6.9 miles/kWh * 33.7kWh/gasoline gallon equivalent = 232MPGe

    I can live with that.

I charged up, and it said 25.7 miles without the AC on, and 23.7 miles with the AC on. I just drove 29.4 miles all with the AC on, with a total net climb of about 45 feet, and still had 1.2 miles remaining. This was part city, part highway. EVTripPlanner (again, on "Leaf Beta") said I'd consume 19 range miles when I actually consumed 22.5 range miles (23.7 - 1.2).

Overall, I find this tool to be quite useful.

I live where it is very flat and very rural with no traffic. So I can drive slow in EV which I DO NOT recommend to anyone else. It can be dangerous.

After one charge I had 35.0 mi EV available. I used 31.1mi in EV before I had to recharge for the next day. 11.4 mi EV were still available when I charged. So a calculate 42.5 mi in EV was possible on this charge.

Driving to work I have figured how to get up to 9.25 mi/kWh round trip in EV, by my experiment posted on another thread - not enought time to post details yet, and with no traffic around. I will post details later. Again, I do not recommend slow driving for others.
