is this their own test? if so, could be legit. what about the two eco?

 

Maybe Hybrid only mode. No way Prime gets beat with EV mode used. But they can't predict how much EV is used. It's different for everyone.

 

There is why we no longer subscribe to Consumer Reports. No one can replicate their results.

In science and engineering, the ability to replicate results is what gives credibility to a report. Consumer Reports fails that test.

Reporting MPG numbers for a plug in without including the grid electric is just pointless boasting.

 

Too many unknowns to even do a rule of thumb.

I NEVER pay attention to a reviewer's MPG rating. It's just one driver! Don't listen! This is why there's PC.

 

consumer reports ratings for the prime have a "In testing" status.
Ive been waiting for them to finish all year and i wish they would hurry up.

 

Consumer Reports has a problem with their CITY mpg (too low for Prius/hybrids).
So I personally look at Consumer Reports HIGHWAY MPG only.

Many posters here feel intuitively, and some say their own driving data proves, with the larger Li battery, PiP and Prime should be better gaso MPG than the equivalent hybrid. Consumer Reports is generally not seeing that "bigger battery" benefit in their test, in part the Plug-ins tend to be heavier, so that has been a source of some conflict with Prius Chat. I tend to feel for some drivers, maybe CR is correct, and for some, maybe can get better gaso MPG from the plug-in versions.

(Above I am talking about gaso MPG if you do not plug-in)
