Another "No Ready" thread but with exclamation light and beeps

    Our 2010 Prius isn't starting up. Here's the situation:

    - We parked the car at a friend's house today. While unloading, the 2-year-old got in the front seat.
    - After 3-ish hours, I went back to the car for something and noticed that the hazard lights were on (I didn't notice that when we left the car -- surprising).
    - I tried starting the car, and it didn't start. Instead we got:
    + the Power LED is amber when brake pedal depressed
    + the flashing yellow exclamation mark and a variety of other lights
    + beeping
    + no Ready light
    + slowly flashing green Park button LED



    - Without trying to start, when the driver door is open, it beeps
    - If the door is closed and key fob is in the car, it doesn't beep
    - If the door is closed and the key fob is out of the car, it beeps (a continuous beep) more loudly from near the fuse box under the hood (it seems)
    - I can't lock the doors from inside (they automatically open)
    - The key fob does nothing from outside
    - I can lock the doors with the manual key (it locks all doors). But the beep continues.
    - I can stop the beep by removing fuse 13 from the hood fuse box for a few seconds (and can then replace it)

    Things I tried:

    - I tried using two (not fully charged) external jump-start batteries which normally, in a 12V battery low situation (we have this every now and again thanks to the kids), solves it.
    - I had a service truck come out and try with their battery. Even leaving it connected for 5+ minutes didn't change the behavior.
    - I tried swapping the battery in the key fob. Didn't change the behavior. The other key fob was at home so I haven't tried that yet (the car is 1.5 miles away from home).


    Potential other factors:

    We had our annual safety inspection / OBDII emissions test yesterday:
    - When my wife (who had that done) first picked up the car after, something similar happened (she got the exclamation mark and no Ready). But after trying again a few times, it was OK.
    - When she turned on the headlights, the heads-up display went dark. I've had this happen before. She called me, I told her to turn the brightness dial off the full brightness position, and that worked (it was illuminated, but a little dimmer than normal).
    - Earlier today I turned the dial back to the full position, and it was fine.
    - We have used the car for 6-7 short journeys since she brought the car home, before this problem happened.

    We have issues with the windows:

    - The rear right window doesn't stop at the fully closed position. If you hold the switch up, it closes fully and then opens again. We have to release the switch at the right moment to keep the window closed.
    - The left rear window doesn't lower.


    Any ideas?
    - 12V battery needs to be replaced? Something more complicated?
    - If I disconnect the 12V battery for a few minutes and reconnect, might that sort it out? Any minus in doing that?
    - I do have the Techstream software and cable for connecting and doing some diagnostics. Anything there I should try?

    Thanks for any help. Hoping to sort this out before Monday (otherwise I think I'll have it towed to Toyota).

    first, use the tech stream to check for codes. after recording them, try disconnecting battery negative for a minute. you might lose radio presets and window up/down might need to be relearned.

    it could be the battery is shorted and interfering with charge, but maybe there's a loose connection or fuse.
    check the battery cables for cleanliness and tightness, especially where negative connects to body.

    is the inverter pump working? oil level okay?

    Sorry the video is so poor. I'll take a better one when I go back to the car.
    Thanks for the quick suggestions. I'll dig out my cable and head back to the car to try this. Can you point me to a quick reference for what to do once connected up to the car to get at the codes? (my brain is exhausted from thinking about this and some work stress that this is keeping me from)

    I'll also check the oil level. We haven't had any other problems so I assume that means the inverter pump is OK?

    you can check the inverter pump by watching the reservoir for movement when the car is in ready, so you'll have to find the issue first.
    i don't have tech stream, sorry. there should be instructions in the other threads here, or maybe when you turn it on.

    Yes, original battery, which I'm assuming needs to be replaced (have an Optima on its way).

    My solution was to disconnect the battery for a minute or two which stops the weirdness, reconnect it, and then connect a jump-start battery under the hood, wait a couple minutes, and start it. Then of course leave it on for a few hours.

    So glad it's nothing serious. Thanks for the help!
