those gaskets were annoying, and people keep having trouble due to them. imagine the poor non priuschatter who winds up dropping a c note at the dealer to remove a gasket?

we don't know, but probably? or maybe just a cushion for when the plug goes all the way in.
at some point, they stopped using them, so apparently, were never needed.

Perhaps, but you would have to be confident that no other design changes were make to the car or the EVSE to replace whatever function the gasket provided.

but that's been the dealers fix, so what else do we have to go by?

If it is a Toyota approved fix then I would be confident it is ok.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't be the right answer. The codes (mold numbers) inside the car side connector are exactly the same on both. It is now the exact setup as the new cord.

I bought mine from china.. Its a level 2 shipped in less then 2 weeks and i customized the lenght too. Cost $165. I had my bro in law who is an electritian to run a 220 cable right outside my driveway where the car is parked. Charges in 1 hr 50 min. Works great. I can give you the info for the cable if you need

I guess a Level 2 charger at home would be nice but not particularly useful for most people as they can easily have the 5 hours or so at home overnight needed to charge the Prime using the regular Level 1 charging cord.

The about two hour charging provided by the Level 2 would be far more beneficial when one goes elsewhere, say to a restaurant or a movie or to visit friends or even in some cases to work where you have to go from one office to another and only spend a few hours at each stop. I wish there was a easily portable Level 2 charger that one could carry in the car and leave he Level 1 plugged at home.
But then the proper 240 outlet would have to be found wherever one went, so again a Level 1 charger would be more convenient for most people who go to work 8-5.

Ideally, one day the Level 1 would be able to charge from empty to full in less time than the 5 hours it takes now.

I would say useful for charging more than once a day. The (IMO) better reason to buy an L2 EVSE now would be that you are now hooked on *EV and your future cars will almost certainly take more advantage of it, so don't evaluate its value only in terms of the Prime today.

True, or if one has more than one EV that needs charging...two cars could be fully charged in less than 5 hours at home.
