Well as a stated future goal, yes it was that long ago. But I was referring to his announcement in 2011 that they were starting the Falcon 9 project, and that it would be designed to have a reusable booster. This idea was widely dismissed, until the recent successes by SpaceX. The problem for the traditional space companies is that they were caught unprepared and it will take them several years now to develop their own reusable rockets.

Toyota experienced something similar to SpaceX by correctly predicting that hybrid technology would be more in demand than pure electric, which proved to be true and at least for now remains the case. It has taken the competition years to catch up, with the Ioniq as the first real challenge, twenty years after the first Prius.

Of course the next question is which one to bet on next, PHEV, BEV or FCV. For the moment Toyota seems to be leaning towards plug-in, although it's hard to tell because we are waiting to find out if Toyota plans to market the Prime as mainstream. I suspect the current dilemma they have is possibly making less profit on the Prime than they do on the liftback. Although they used to say that about Prius also, the rumor in the early days was that it was sold below cost, but I don't think that was ever proven.

 

It is suspected, although not confirmed, that Tesla will have used up its allocation of federal credits before the Model 3 becomes available for general purchase. This means that anyone getting one after the preallocations are rolled out would not get a $7500 tax credit. Chevy still has a couple years left it appears, and Toyota has a long ways to go. That is assuming the current administration doesn't kill the credits during the tax reforms. So many although possibly not all, folks in the current backlog will get credits but when someone who wasn't brave enough to sign up early can finally buy one, there may be no credits available to lower the cost.

You are going to LOVE this car! It's big enough inside to make 4 grown ups feel like they belong in the car yet it will still flip a u-turn on a standard residential street. I am approaching 1,000 miles and am still on the tank they gave me at the dealership!

I understand the rules just fine. The tax credits are good for the first 200,000 vehicles sold, after that they phase out. If you add the allocated model 3s to the anticipated other models sold they will reach that number before all the reserved model 3s are fulfilled. Tesla can't change the tax rules.

1. The tax credit enters into a phase-out period after the 200,000th sale in the United States
2. The full credit is given to any US car sold past 200,000 if it occurs in the quarter or the following quarter of the 200,000th US sale.

Since Tesla has said they will game the timing of the credits, even if the first Model 3 triggers the phase-out period, Tesla will have 6 months of production that will garner the full $7,500 (unless the rules are changed.) Past Tesla sales have been 50% US and 50% international. If half the Model 3 reservations are US, that means about 200,000 cars are in the running for the full tax credit. Since Tesla expects to produce 10,000 cars a week from Jan 2018, that easily covers the US reservation list in two quarters.

 

Since the matter brought up, I would like to know:
1. How to quote a post so it will include the quote in it?
2. How to multi quote several parts of the same post so that the redirection (member said: ) will appear only once?

Assuming you're using a computer and browser, highlight the first text you want to quote. A little green thing will pop up with a choice of "+quote" or "reply." Click "+quote."

Then, highlight the next text to quote and do the same.

Then click in the text box to make your own comment and click the button to insert the quote. And then just go from there.

Hope this helps.

 

Or in Tapatalk hit the first text you want and select the More button. Then select multi quote. Select the second post you want to quote and then in the top bar click on the answer bubble.

Thanks, this is how I am doing it and it does not give the result I wanted.
I want the redirection line (member said: ) to appear only once (prior to the first section quoted) and not on top of each section as if they are coming from separate posts.
See your own post #94 for how I don't want it to show.

 

I do multi-quote somewhat old-school, take advantage of windows cut-and-past functions. I might start by:

1. Highlighting some text in a posting, then click the reply pop-up. Alternatively, if I want to quote everything, just click the main reply button.

2. In the edit window below the quote, I'll type something. Then do a couple of "enters", and position cursor at bottom. Don't post it yet though.

3. Scroll back up the page to next text I want, repeat step 1. This'll add more quote text in my still open edit window, hopefully where I want it. If it's mislocated, I'll cut-and-paste it to where I want it.

4. Repeat as needed, then post.

Another example, I might respond without quoting, directly following someone's post, thinking it's fairly obvious who I'm responding to. But while I'm in edit someone else posts, so my response ends up being posted without obvious indication as to who I'm responding too.

In that case I'll then hit reply (or highlight portion and reply). This gives me the quote in a fresh edit window. I select it there, copy or cut, then edit my previous post, postition cursor, and paste.

Yet another example: someone's got a length, multi-question posting. If I want to respond to them point by point, I'll reply to their overall posting, then in the edit window highlight it all and copy, then paste multiple copies of it, each time pruning away all but a specific question, and adding my response. Their full initial posting remains in Windows Clipboard the whole while.

Alternately I'll do multiple quotes, per steps 1 and 2.

Anyway, about a million ways to do it. One thing, espeically for highlighting text, it is vastly easier on a desktop/laptop, comparing to on a phone. Highlighting specific text on a phone (specifically an iPhone for me) is an exercise in frustration. I'll often throw in the towel, just quote the whole thing, then labourious delete what's not needed.

 

Another way of doing it: start an unquoted reply, after a word or two, hit 'post reply' to "reserve your seat" then hit "edit" and edit it at your leisure

 

Yep and it will still take a year after that for the tax credits to fully disappear. So it will be more than 200,000 cars sold in the US that will get the tax credit. The next 2 quarters after they hit the phase out quarter they can still take $3,750. The next 2 quarters they can still get $1,875 for a tax credit. I believe the way Tesla has always done ordering is those with the most optioned up orders go to the head of the line. This almost guarantees you'll get something off the extra options you ordered. And if you order in NY, because it's less than $60,000 and gets 120 miles and over EV range, it'll get an instant $2,000 rebate.

For an example if Elon want's to play the system, he'll delay the 200,000 order until the first day of the next quarter. Say, for instance, they are gonna hit the 200,000 car order on the 31st of December. He could delay it until January 1st, so the next 3 months will get the full tax credit. Come April 1st, everybody will get the $3,750 tax credit for their orders. And anybody who gets their order after October 1st until the following March 31st will get the $1,875 tax credit.

I'm not exactly sure what you want, but I think I know what you don't want.

Is it like this? If so, I quoted your entire text and popped it into this. Then I edited your quote to put in a close quote code at the first break, started a new line, and typed a little after that as you see above. Then I entered a start quote code before "See you own quote" above and then typed this part of my reply.

Now I'll post and see if it works like I think it does.
