I have a 2004 Prius that I am buying a hitch for. I need to know if I am able to haul my moped (250lbs) on a motorcycle carrier 3000 miles. I don't have any money to buy a trailer but can buy a dolly or motorcycle carrier. If I go with a dolly, what would my max speed be able to be? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Also, I forgot to mention, my Prius has 227,000 miles on it. I am moving from Oregon to Michigan, too, if that makes a difference. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I don't think that would be a problem at all. That's about the weight of most fat chicks/guys. I assisted a friend of mine put a carrier for a Grom on a Gen 4. No issues. That's a harbor freight carrier (steel plate model, about $100) and a Curt hitch (about $115). We put a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter on the carrier after cutting a similar amount off the carrier main bar.
Tork Lift make both a 1 1/4 inch and 2 inch receiver versions. Torklift Central | Torklift Central | 2004-2009 Toyota Prius Gen II EcoHitch
Nice! Thank you for the advice! CURT Manufacturing - CURT Class 1 Trailer Hitch #11468 someone is selling hitch near me for $80. Would this work as far as the hitch goes? If you have any photos of the process you and your friend did, I would love to see them! I'm a newbie when it comes to hitches. This will be my first time dealing with one. something like rubber spring inserts will help a lot with the squatting. You have to be riding low with that much weight on the hitch. Unfortunately I cant post links but google search: "Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension - Rear Axle Item # CSS-1168R"
Agree. That is one heavy moped. Also I'm wondering about your 3000 mile route from Oregon to Michigan. You may want to update your GPS maps! Depending on other luggage and passengers, have you considered draining the fluids and putting it inside?
