OEM tire life

Yup! ......I'm an OLD/MAN & I drive like one!......tires & I look alike, "Bald" .......

 

The ones on my '14 were Bridgestone I think and I only got about 30,000 or a little over that. I got some Michelins to replace them and I am at 90,000 now with good tread still left. I never get advertised life out of my tires but think I will come close with this set.

 

Mine had about 54,400 miles on it when I bought it and it came with brand new Yokohama Avids. I don't know how worn the originals were, but the dealer I buy from usually puts new sneakers on the cars he sells.

 

My 17" inch OE Bridgestone lasted 90k the replacement Michelins now have 80k on them -- will get replaced at next oil change .. 180k

 

I traveled 105,000+ miles on my original Yoko's. I turned them into racing slicks via my 84 mile daily commute. I have 154,000 miles on the car and fully expect the Michelin Energy Saver A/S's to go just as far. YMMV

 

Got 90k on my EP20. Still kicking myself for getting lazy and not doing the last tire rotation. I could've gotten 100k. Winter was coming and I didn't want to push my luck with slicks.

IIRC, it rarely snows in Vancouver. But then you live in "Greater Vancouver." I still miss my two school years in Langley even though they were a LONG time ago.

 

Yeah normally just cold and wet. But we seem to have more than our share last winter; had two or three snowy stretches.

Even rain is a bad mix with near-bald tires, definitely not ok, ok, ok, not ok, as you near the legal tread depth limit: stopping distances go up up progressively as tread depth decreases. One exception might be the Michelin Premier A/S which perport good traction almost all the way down, due to new siping opening up as the tire wears. Anyway, once I'm down to 5/32" it's time to start shopping, even with separate snow tires.

We're still on our OEM Michelin Pilots; I think I'll be replacing them due to age, not tread depth. They're around 7/32", still the manufacture date is 5th week of 2009. We're putting on the miles very slowly now, and the snow tires are swapped in every winter.

 

One thing I don't miss is the wet! And the lack of sunshine in winter there. Especially coming from Denver. But the scenery is spectacular. Oops! I think I'm hijacking a thread.

 

Wow, you are lucky dude! My EP20 on 2015 Prius lasted only 25K miles. I could have pushed another 5K if I didn't have to drive on snow and ice, but I changed them to Xice3 before this winter. I recently purchased set of Conti Truecontact to put on after all the snow gone maybe in a month? I am hoping they will last much better than EP20. By the way, I have Yoko Avid (not an OEM) on our 2008 Civic hybrid which in now driven by my son. With changing to winter tires 5 months out of a year, they are still fine after 70k miles, though its only 40K miles driven on them. I think it had 80K tread wear warranty.

 

Quite similarly: when we bought our 2010 Prius we sold our 2006 Civic Hybrid to our son and daughter in law. In just a few weeks I'm going to put Michelin Defenders on that car, when the snows come off. Will see how those work out.

 

When you average 30k miles a year, tires tend to last a long time since it's mostly highway. My previous car, a 2006 Civic was on its 2nd set of tires when we sold it at 177k miles.

 

I got 47000 miles on orignal yokohamas there at the wear bars by 50000 looking now for new tires now.

The mixed reports you see on mileage claims you see from the same tire are due to the week and year of manufacture differences.

All tires have the week and year of manufacture stamped on them..
In my search for replacement tires I use a duramotor gauge to measure the hardness of the rubber which is the main factor for tire wear..
I have looked at all brands and types. Hardness differs from the week of manufacture for the same tire.

Michellins pirelli's bridgestones and all major brands have no consistency in rubber hardness from week to week as manufactured.

I have tested all major brands at the tire shops each and every brand manufactured in different weeks have drasticly different rubber hardness... When buying new tires insist on all four tires have the same week of manufacture stamped on them.. other wise you will end up with one soft rubber on the drivers front and a harder rubber on the passenger front with the car allways pulling to the softer rubber side tire!

 

The manufacture dates on the aforementioned Defenders are all over the place. It is what it is, hopefully they will wear consistantly.
