I installed a 16Amp Chargepoint at my house a few weeks ago. It went on sale on Amazon and the Prime cannot charge above 3.3KW rate anyway, so a more costly 32Amp wouldn't do me any good. One thing I noticed that that the charger does not accurately calculate the amount of miles added per charge. Actually, it's off by about 50%. The same goes for the commercial ChargePoints as well. Did anyone else notice this? Also, I like having a home charger more than I thought I would. I didn't bother plugging in the dongle for less than a few hours before, since it was more of a hassle, but I can get a full charge in 2 hours now, so I am driving all electric a lot more often now. Electricity rated here in MD are decent ($0.09/KW), so charging during the day isn't a big deal.

Selects the option that gives your a charger and a cord in a bundle. They sell them separately as well.

I seriously need to move south, $.21 per kwH in MA is crazy. And that is if you don't add in the connect charge of $4 per month even when you use zero electricity. I was thinking $.083 per kwH was cheap for my panels but hearing people pay for electricity straight from the electric company at those rates makes me think I definitely got taken on my panels.

The local company is actually offering a special "Electric vehicle" rate of $0.03 during off-peak hours, but that plan comes with a higher regular rate of $.22/KW. Maybe if I had a Tesla, it would make more sense. Then again, if I could afford a Tesla, I wouldn't care about electricity rates :)

We have the Charepoint Home Charging station and like it too. I ordered ours in the end of December and paid $470 for the Station & Cable. I refused to buy a cheap Chinese import to save money on a car that cost $35,000. The miles added is definitely off. My wife comes home from work with a no electric range left. We charge it overnight and it says 15 miles added. But when she gets into the car it always says 20 or 21. I'm pretty sure it's just a difference in the way it calculates the mileage. It's no big deal to us.

I am seeing exactly the same thing, 15-16 miles added to a fully discharged battery. Although, I am getting 34 miles of electric range, fully charged in real world conditions.

Is the ChargePoint charger the best to buy or are there others? What if you just install a 110 20 amp outlet...isn't that the same as the Charge Point charger? Planning on buying a Prime soon and want to be prepared with the outlet.

It depends on how often you charge your Prime. If you are only charging overnight, you are going to be fine with the included cable and a household outlet. I prefer to drive electric as often as possible, so I charge as often as possible. On a ChargePoint, I get from Low to Full in about two hours. It would take 6 with the included cable. You add about 16 miles per hour with a 240V charger and only a third of that from a 120V outlet. This means that I get a full charge after I come from work and before I take my kids to activities or run chores. You will need a Chargepoint or a similar charger with a dedicated 240V/20A line to charge faster. You don't need anything more powerful than a 16A charger, since Prime maxes out at 3.3Kw/hour (although statistics from my ChargePoint state that my Prime is adding electrons as the rate of 3.52Kw/h). I recommend ChargePoint, because it is a reputable company that makes reliable/safe chargers. Why would you want to spend $30K+ on a car and then ruin its sensitive electrical system by plugging it into a poorly designed charger. Most smartphone fires/exploded batteries are the result of non-compliant/cheap chargers/cables.

no, it is not the same. 120 volts is Level 1 charging (L1) and charge point is Level 2 (L2) 240 volts and more than twice as fast.

I had a 50 amp wire dryer outlet installed in my garage, along with a 6-20R 240 volt socket.

    Then I got a :

New Duosida Electric Vehicle Charger (220V-240V) - free upgraded expedited shipping-22 ft long - Level 2 - 16 amp Electric Car Charger - J1772 - EVSE

It arrived in 2 days ( $285 amazon prime) Added a garden hose minder to hold the cable off the ground ( $9 ).

Charges in 2.5 hours. My entune app on my iphone alerts me when it's fully charged.

I own a ChargePoint myself, although it isn't installed. That said, there are several other brands that are highly recommended. If I had known that my electric company had a deal going on before I ordered I would have ordered the ClipperCreak model from them instead only because it was a little cheaper and was a more advanced model due to a deal they were running. They want to get people to buy this ClipperCreak because it reports back to them when it is used and they can start to build statistics to determine if it is valuable to add an EV rate program to their electricity delivery options. Given their current pricing, I am not convinced I would want to change over because they would probably charge $0.30 per kwh all day and then like $0.15 overnight and with the low amount of electricity used by a Prime it probably would end up costing me more. Not to mention they would likely give back for my overage on my solar panels at the lowest charged rate, or $0.15 rather than the peak rate of $0.30.

My issue right now is weather, I need it to be nice enough that they can start drilling into my house and expose some wall without insulation while they do an installation. I don't want to mess with that while we are at 20F all day. So I may hold off installing this until spring. I already mounted the one from the car under my porch on a support beam and have an extension cord going up to my outdoor GFCI outlet.

do you use the Prime's built-in scheduler to charge or the ChargePoint's schedule?
