Dumb question, but I can't see how to get at the small parking lamp on passenger side. Almost looks as if I would have to pull the whole headligh assembly which I think involve alot of screw removals and pulling front fender off. Suggestion or am I not looking or feeling in right place for this bulb? Is there an LED replacement for the W5W bulb?
Is it the bulb inside the yellow portion of the headlight you're talking about? I've changed the one on driver's side, not sure that the other side would be different. Follow the cable in with your fingers. IIRC the bulb socket has is bayonet mount: you rotate it counterclockwise and out. Replacement bulb through dealership is part number 00234-00192, same as license plate light.
Had to change mine once on the passenger side. Pretty simple, but be careful when pulling the socket/bulb out. My bulb popped out of the socket and dropped into the headlight housing. I was able to retrieve it using my trusty springy/grabby tool after taking the high beam bulb/socket out.
pulling the fender would gain you nothing, to remove the assembly takes removing the whole front of the car. All I do is undo the bolts holding the coolant overflow and lay it over out of the way, give this utube a quick look, might make it clearer for you. I don't remove the air tube that he does, but my hands aren't real big
...simple job, use search to find how I changed all my small 5W wedgies to LEDs ($6 for pack of 15 on eBay) other threads/videos here and on youtube, search is your friend, but if I show you, then you won't learn, so have at it! ...and good luck! Finally got that bulb out after using a mirror to see exactly where it is, and removing the bolt holding an air intake (?) hose. Boy, you have to have a small hand, and wrists that are universal joints to get onto that socket and some force to twist it loose. Thanks for all your replies. WilDavis, I am mostly a "lurker" just perusing these threads learning this and that. My 2011 has never been in the shop except for recall notices which is pretty good testament to Prius durability, I think!
I got my hand on it, without removing anything, just to see how it was done. Then I was beginning to wonder: am I going to show up at emergency, with a Prius on me hand?
