True, although some of the time some level of access is possible. Viewing the site seems still problematic but not so much as posting on it.

I suppose my main point was that providing information once, in a prominent public place, can greatly reduce the workload of receiving lots of notifications and complaints about a known problem or issue.

And at the same time it can help to reassure folk that there is someone on the case.

    So everyone wins.

Site Moderator Tideland Prius has also been about as responsive as can be expected, considering the moderators seem to be getting the same mushroom treatment we are getting [[communication between the top and the bottom is not happening]]. I don't understand, but as Paradox said, all that can be done has been done from this end.

Might as well give up the complaining, put on the shades and enjoy the ride while it lasts -- sure there are some bumps.

But it beats going down to the library and pulling out an outdated/inaccurate car repair manual, which may or may not answer my question every time my Prius has the sniffles.

What's this "library" thing that you mentioned???

(and.......yes, it also reminds me of an OLD Star Trek episode....back when they had non virtual libraries)

    Prius, sniffles, surely not!

Mine is never even slightly poorly.

But then it has only done 93000 miles in 9 years. Almost new really for a Prius.

(Will be selling it soon I hope in favour of a Prime).

    Near as I can tell:
    • ~3AM (CST) - site goes whacky
    • ~6AM (CST) - site goes normal
During the whacky time, it is as if one window 'frame' decides to overlay the other one that scrolls. Meanwhile, the 'click-bait' images will often oscillate one side and then the other. Google Chrome is less bad.

Speculation but I suspect the 'revenue' updates are stepping on some Java rendering code. The reason is Java has turned out to be the write once and break everywhere. Seriously, Perl and C work and are easily maintained and transportable. The others, especially the object oriented ones, are so dependent upon "libraries" that in effect, you're in a blind trust. The next release will break something that had been working for years.

Now, it is just somewhat amusing and lets me know, 'nap time is calling my name.'

I also notice rendering is especially bad on small screens.
When you clock on a thread from the forum listing, the link only contains a posting number. Apparently, there is a database lookup to get the thread information too. This lookup often fails with the database error.

I noticed one day we posting links to other threads, the system just displayed the URL, not the thread title during this time. Later on. I was able to re-save the posts so it displayed properly.

Honestly, I bow to your wisdom on these matters, but thought I should mention an old time English medical treatment as a cure for drowning. It was too blow smoke up the patients *ss through a short tube. Seriously, you couldn't make this stuff up, but I expect that's where the current usage originates from. Now, where did I leave my pipe and baccy?

I would expect you first need to get the victim out of the water. This site still gets flooded with problems.

Strange the way it comes and goes. I haven't had any issues for several days. I assumed it was fixed. (n)

I noticed that a couple days ago when I was up a little early. Maybe there's a pattern here. Maybe it's just PC telling us to go back to sleep like mom & dad did when I was a kid. ;)

What I'm seeing during the time that it fails is a failure to load parts of the stylesheet, which would of course break the layout badly.

Site continues to go off line, noticed last night around maybe 8:45 pm Pacific Daylight Saving Time (west coast North America). Bit more frustrating if you're in Hawaii, Australia, far East.

Either Sunday, or Monday morning (UTC+1) I kept getting an unauthorised access to server denied for more than 6 hours. Checked with one of those online checking sure which reported access to Prius Chat was OK, so it was just my equipment! Huh!

The is it up or is it down for just me site continues to report that "it is just you (me)." Glad it isn't just me but the last two evenings there was no Prius Chat. Is Danny saving electricity by switching this off every night?
