Transaxle fluid has to be WS fluid, not the ATF stuff you have

You need four quarts (or liters) of Toyota ATF WS. It's spec'd in Owner's Manual. I've attached an excerpt from Repair Manual below.

That's pretty gutsy: doing the drive shafts. I wouldn't have the nerve.

Did the axle come out easy or a lot of prying?

I guess buying from a dealer doesn't always mean that your getting the "right" fluid as they should know everything about your car :cautious:

I was calling around for this kind a repair and the lowest quote i got was $515 with a "rebuilt" axle! i was like Seriously?

I was expecting it to be hard but with the help of a puller it only took me 1.15hrs from raising the car, pulling out the axle to putting back the tire.

It looks pretty straight forward. Too bad my vehicle doesn't have any problems for me to film

How many miles are you up to now on your 2012? I am about to click 150 k miles on the clock with our 2010.

You around the Saturday the 25th? There is a meetup at @Rebound 's place in Fremont. If you're around, stop on by:).

You sure you don't want to do any filmings "just because"?

I think my work Prius is at 134k miles. I've done all the maintenance already and now just driving it until the HV battery needs to be changed. Not sure what the 25th entails but i will have to see.

And filming the Prius is fun, but just because won't be too fun lol I do want to film a brake job though, but it's costly :( and the Prius brakes are still thick lol...

More than one Prius? My brakes at 150 k miles are still like brand new, otherwise I would offer mine up for the sake of filming ;).

Any other jobs you have been Savin up to do films on?

I'll keep you in mind when at ~ 200 k miles the egr system and intake manifold will come off for cleaning. That should be a good video topic(y).

I just got a smart phone for 2016 Father's Day, so my technology skills are behind the curve a bit:sick:.

I cleaned out my EGR pipe around 100K and it as really clean, just some very light ash. I think the EGR and intake manifold stay clean until your rings start to go, and then the problem is your rings.

Maybe we'll pull my intake on the 25th. That would be a good thing to do with other people around.

Sounds like a plan(y). You going to get some gaskets just in case?

How many miles are you up to on your PIP?

SPOT THE DIFFERENCES . I need to check my service records regarding this comparison, it's way too dirty & less than 4 was drained. Exactly 4 quarts was put in.

It's so quiet now when I step on the brakes that I could hear the passenger side very faint clicking , oh well I guess that would be my next project.

Sounds like @Rebound would be a willing participant in intake manifold removal and inspection.

If you can swing the 25th, you'll have a new addition to your channel(y).

Did you notice any scoring on the axles? Dealer that did mine at 30k noted some and I've had the clicking just learned to live with it. Brake fluid flush is my next project

Didn't notice any scoring on mine, the axle itself looked like new when I wiped it down the boot was still intact but the problem is the internal parts.

Axle resonance rubber peace...you have reused from old axle?....one that is on the shaft.....otherwise you will have unpleasant noise at some speeds
