That is my suspicion too. Even if Hyundai decides to not outright cheat this time around, I expect them to design to the EPA test rather than normative driving.

22 is too conservative for sure. I drive rather aggressively even on highway. I can get ~23-24 these days.

I'm getting 31 mile EV range right now. Still slowly creeping up little by little each time! Amazing!

Rules changes for 2016MY result in even more conservative numbers on the EPA.

As a first year for a new model PHEV, the Prime will be one of the few cars the EPA actually tests, but they are also busy checking all the submitted diesel models.

Worth mentioning here that EPA's 25 miles AER for the prime is a combined result weight calculated from 27.1 miles urban drive (55%) and 22.8 miles extra-urban.
Also, AER (All Electric Range) is by definition the EV distance on grid charge until the engine first fires.

    Wha
What Prime Apps are you referring to?

Also, is there anywhere on the display that tells you how many EV miles you actually traveled on the charge? All I see is the fully charged number ticking down. Then I have to use the odometer number figure out how many miles I actually went when the EV # goes to zero.

    I'm getting about 29 or 30 on a charge.

Reset one of the trip meters before starting the trip.

My display on the trip meter does not show how many EV miles I actually went

24.7 says the car, but I feel I can't go the 25 in evm. I guess my car or I don't know how to drive it, I can't get 25miles it's more like 17 ish...

That is my understanding as well. Manufacturers are given the methods and they submit their test results. The EPA will do random testing to ensure the numbers are correct and that the manufacturers are being honest.

I just finished my first four weeks and initial tank of gas. I am getting 25-26 miles in pure EV and Eco mode with DRCC set on 65 MPH on the 27.5 mile drive on I-78 to work. There is one mountain that eats ~10% SoC alone since I am currently testing staying in EV only for the first few tanks. The other performance aspect to consider though is that the average temperature was 34 degrees F over the course of that first month of driving, normally my worst timeframe for EV performance.

IMG_7824.PNG I finally hypermiled my way to 38 miles electric. I am not sure I have patience to go for 39.

Warmer weather might get you to 40 anyway.
What do you include in hyper - miling ?

I've noticed that my wife drives our EV much more efficiently than our Prius*. So far as I can discern the two main differences are her having more regen braking at her disposal, and not having to manage the ICE. All it seems to take is not being an aggressive driver.

*I really mean that our consumption results are much closer together in the EV -- about 5.2 miles per kWh in 30 - 40F weather for her, and about 5.3 for me. She is about 25% worse in the Prius.

Actually, I follow the blue guide bar most of the time. There are times when it doesn't make sense (like when it uses predictive drive, but I vary my route or on hills). I also fire up ICE right before I get on a highway, as I find it more efficient than electric. I save electric drive for most of my commute, except when I have to do 65. That and an incredible amount of restraint to adhere to speed limits.

Some observations from 1st month of Prime Premium driving.
    EV miles Morning
    Achieved Temp F°
    27.2 34
    26.2 35
    28.0 42
    29.5 48
    30.8 55
    25.9 28
    28.6 44
    32.7 59

I can only charge at home for 72 mi. round trip commute. At the end of EV miles I go to charge mode for ICE warm up, then go to HV mode for rest of trip. On return trip in HV mode, if there is a slight decline, pause and immediately turn on cruise control to get EV miles. Still learning.

So is your traction battery getting better with use or is your Prime's computer learning your driving habits and calculating your electric range in miles based on your past driving habits of how much electric power you use per mile driven?

I suspect neither. He is a little bit better driver (from good to really good), and the weather is warming up.

Why not just HV mode for warm-up and rest of trip? Or, if you desire charge then Charge Mode after warm-up? This way, the warm-up is done with minimum tailpipe emissions (no extra load on the cold ICE).

In a regular Prius hybrid, it is a good idea to drive the first mile or two with low load until the ICE warms up. I imagine the same thinking holds for the Prime, so it would make sense to me to enter HV mode with a kWh or so of battery remaining. That way the drive can be regular load overall but low load on the ICE in the beginning.

That's a misconception. The battery provides a buffer for the engine. In the plug-in model, that benefit very easy to see. RPM restricted to 1500 until warm up is complete.
