    I'm looking to buy:

    (4) - 15" 2012 Prius Plug-In (PIP) Alloy Rim part no: 42611-47360

    upload_2017-2-28_9-42-58.png

Minor rim rash ok, as long as just on the edge. Not interested in tires, and/or TPMS sensors.

I'm in the Greater Vancouver (BC, Canada) area.

Yeah, if I can find anything reasonable. Just photoshopped stock photos, but this our setup: Classic Silver Metallic with the 17" rims. Before and after:

Would welcome comments too, ie: "looks good", "nice update", "you're off your nut", whatever. :)

    You're off your nut.

I have had both on my gen 3 cars, I wouldn't go and downgrade to 15s. The improved handling and stability of the 17s are worth the small mpg penalty. Not to mention the cleaning of the 15s would really hurt your back, takes 3x the time to do it

DW just chimed in, looking at the two pics above: she like's the 17's better.

Was actually intending they'd be the new all-season look, instead of 17's. The PIP look I guess.

    Why stop at the rims?

I believe the modders say once you start, there's no going back;)!

@MattStevenson I've started a conversation, but I think your location is going to make shipping prohibitively expensive.

You're off your nut but you already know I would say that. I don't care for the harsher ride and added expense of 17's but I wouldn't move to the ugly PiP rims. Oh wait, that's right they're on my car right now. I much prefer 2012-2015 black allows with hubcaps.

The grass always looks greener on the other side. I would at least prefer the regular prius rims in silver. Still, they have a utilitarian look, to my eye.

Played around with USPS a bit more: a 40 lb 16"x16"x16" box from zip code 90210 (that's all I got) would be $251 US. That's what I figure for two rims, so times two: ugh! I guess anything beyond driving range is iffy.

All the PiP styling cues really rub me the wrong way. From the rims to all the grey garnishes. The piano black front spoiler turns into a dull matte finish on the PiP. The only thing I approve of is the charging door design. I don't like the clearer tail lights either. I like solid colors.

You might find a taker if you do a straight up trade with your 17's.

Yeah I was toying with that, but I don't want to. Not for a while anyway.

    Food for thought:

Our closest dealership will sell me the rims, new, for $495 (Canadian). Apiece!

US online retailer Toyota Parts Online will sell and ship to me, for $260~ per rim, plus $350~, to ship the four. That's roughly $1400, but still US. With the conversion: $1800~, or about $450 per rim. And still some unknowns: import duties? So any advantage there dwindling faster than our snow drifts. :(

@JC91006 was offering his set of four for $400 US, a year or so back.

The used rim market is not that great. If I put my leased 2015 plug in wheels for sale, it would be hard to get $400 now

Another Photoshop exercise, this one with our car. I think I'm coming around to JC's view, that the PIP rims are a step down. Anyway:

    Stock:

    Plug-In rims:

    2010 Prius with 15 inch Plug-In rims.jpg

And the 4th gen accessory 15" rims, 10-spoke chromed. I really don't like this:

Fully agree on the 10 spokes.

But I have the 15" base models with the plastic covers that I look at all the time so I do not have much room to talk.

I don't think you'll want those anytime soon to get into the 15" wheel family.

If you had the choose a 15" rim, the PiP's look better. The 15" accessory wheels looked good in the photos by themselves but when they started appearing on the cars, they didn't look as nice as I imagined.

The funny thing is that I'm so used to the smaller look of the naked 15" wheels on mine that when I put the covers back on, the wheels look larger because the spokes go right up to the tire.
