I hope as long as it takes congress to get anything done we can at least get thru 2017 before all is gone.

Agreed. If I had to guess here is what I'd say are the likely outcomes from most likely to least likely:
1. No change, tax credits remain in place. There's already an effective sunset clause as manufacturers will eventually run out of credits. Expect this scenario is far more likely than all others combined
2. Eliminate credit but not until 2018. This would cause a feeding frenzy this year obviously
3. Eliminate credit for cars purchased in 2017 after legislation passes
4. Retroactively eliminate credit for all cars purchased in 2017

 

Bottom line we have no idea yet, the only thing I heard some heresay that Elon Musk and Pres Trump have discussed and Trump was supportive of EVs. I'd be shocked if there are any changes for 2017 (but these are shocking times). I also posted last week that Trump/Pruitt were signaling support of ethanol mandates, implying possibly minor tweaks. I do not really see the issue as climate change for Trump...the issue is to him/Congress is creating American jobs by favoring home-grown alternates. If you ask me, the eco-merits of say ethanol are very questionable, it's the jobs created that Congress likes so much.

 

with ford, gm and chrysler on board, i think there might be some push back.

 

They could make the tax credit just for domestic cars.

 

I was thinking that too, but did not want to say it. But they already sort of accounted for that. The whole idea behind giving each automaker only a certain number of vehicles, was originally intended , back in the hybrid days, to keep Toyota from running the table with the credits..

 

that's a possibility. but every time a wall is run into, they seem to back off. whoever 'they' are.
