Hello everybody I currently own a 2005 Toyota Prius base model car has just over 221,000 and running strong! However sometimes when sitting on idle (cold engine) or when I am driving on the freeway my car tends to beep 3 rings the same noise if you were going from reverse to the B Drive accidently. Sometimes it doesnt happens sometimes its just ridiculous and drives me mad! However the vehicle drives fine and performance and gas mileage is not the issue. The car has been well taken care of the vehicle did have a recall on the invertor reservoir at 150k which was replaced and recently just flushed the invertor fluid, changed the oil with mobile 1 synthetic high mileage oil and also flushed the transmission fluid. All of it besides the oil change was done by a Toyota Dealership where I had them also inspect the vehicle fully, and they informed me that the vehicle is in tip top shape. But just cannot figure out why I have the 3 beeps while I am driving. If anybody has experienced anything like this let me know I am totally stumped.
Not sure by FOB batteries you mean the unlock, lock to get in the vehicle? They still work fine but do not believe that would be the issue, also the 12 Volt Battery is new and also the Hybrid battery is as well.
And also my FOB is not a smart key it does not lock or unlock without me pressing the button and will not start unless I put the Key in the slot.
well when I dont wear my seat belt the seat belt beep works properly the beep is really the same three beeps just like if i was going from reverse to B or if I would just sit and put the car in B, I have friends and family who own 2nd generation prius as well and both have well over 200k and they do not make that sound. So I am honestly stumped, I going to go to the dealer today to purchase a battery for my key fob hopefully that will work if that doesnt work I am honestly stumped.
The 05 wasn't sold with an EV button in the US, but the mode exists in the software; it's only missing a switch and a connection to a certain pin on the hybrid(?) ECU. Some people hacked in a switch or bought a wiring harness kit so they could have EV mode. If your car had this done and if the modification perhaps had a loose contact or malfunction, I could imagine the car beeping thrice in "EV mode unavailable" situations -- like low SOC or speeds higher than 42mph, etc. It was just a stab in the dark.
I believe you are in the right direction because it's happening more when I'm driving at high speeds and when I am on low speeds it feels like it doesn't want the gas engine to kick on when I need more power and when it does kick on that's when it's starts to beep, is there anyway to check the modification? Or remove it?
So guys I ended up figuring it out behind the glovebox there is wiring that people buy aftermarket that enables ev mode let's just say it is the most stupidest mod and it basically malfunctioned my prius once I found it and disconnected my prius was running better and doesn't beep anymore! Thank you all for your help.
My car has the exact same problem and it’s been driving me crazy for the last 6 years. How did you remove it???
