How much electric distance are the Primes getting?

    I'm still trying to understand the answer to what is meant to be a simple question:
    Does a change to HV mode while driving then preserve the battery SoC (to within some range) at the level it is at when the HV is enabled ?

    After the initial engine warm up, yes. It slowly climbs back to up the level when HV enabled.

    same for the pip. i've even had the engine run at a light to restore some miles.

    charge mode without the button.:)

    I did a highway trip and switched to HV mode. EV range did not change much once in HV mode and I averaged almost 70 mpg using cruise control at 60-70 mph! I was amazed...

    Sounds like you had help in the form of wind or descent, but 55-60 MPG can probably be anticipated which is awesome for an ICE car.

    I got over 60 MPG both directions on a highway drive in HV mode. Can't have wind and downhill both ways :D. This isn't a-typical of a Toyota though, my Camry was rated at 36MPG highway. On a drive from Massachusetts to Virginia I managed 42 MPG calculated. On the way back I got 38 MPG and it would have been better if I hadn't gone through the Berkshires. Also remember that the in car meters tend to be up to 10% optimistic. Actual calculated numbers tend to be lower.

    Just did my first trip today. I traveled for 24.9 miles and still had 4.9 to go per the indicator. This was in SoCal with a temp of 55 degrees, speeds of 10-65.

    IMG_7817.PNG This actually took some effort and restrain, but here it is: 37 projected miles per charge. Based on my odometer, I actually managed just over 38!!! today. Not bad for Toyota's originally estimated 22 and EPA rated 25.

    You're approaching the super lenient Japanese's JC08 cycle of 68.2km! (42.6 miles). Europe rates the Prime/PHV at 50km (31 miles)

    I don't know how it would be humanly possible to achieve 42.6 in real world driving. Maybe if I drove non-stop at about 35mph...I am hoping to get to 38 and then I am back to regular driving, before I get shot for driving speed limit in DC.

    My highest projected milage in EV mode after a charge was just 35.4. My actual milage was 34.3. Temps have been in the 60s, speeds from 30-55. All my EV projected miles have consistently been over 33 now for the last month.

    All your feedback and my own experience make me think that EPA's ratings for the Prime are very conservative (as they have been with Toyota hybrids in the past). On the other hand, Ford and Hyundai have been receiving ratings that couldn't keep up with the real world numbers. Not even close for Fords. I have a feeling that the Iconiq's 136MPGe will not live up to its hype.

    It's not EPA that is conservative, it is Toyota. I Doubt if EPA have even tested the Prime yet.

    You may be right, but I remember that Toyota originally announced a 22 mile range and then EPA rated it at 25, which works up to 133MPGe. I have been consistently getting way over 200MPGe.

    I believe 25/133 are also Toyota submission/declaration to EPA and not EPA actual test in thier facilities but I may be worng.

    It always seemed "obvious" that an EV would have better efficiency than a PHEV in EV mode since they are simpler designs, but Toyota has somehow broken that rule. Amazing engineers.
