Yes, it's like spreading pelletized fertilizer in a hailstorm this morning.

How long did they have it ?
The beetle that I had and one of the vans had large holes where the drivers feet normally rest.
Reminded me of the "Fred Flintstone" brand of brakes.
Both were over 10 years old though.

'58 through '67 I think. I was frequently the one washing it, can't recall rust problems. Low mileage, small town might be a factor.

Do you feel that Toyota is that devious?

I, personally, think that Toyota's recommendations should be sufficient enough. Why wouldn't it be sufficient enough for others?

If you focus on budget and keep your car 3-5 year's without putting a lot of miles.....yes
If you want to keep for 5+ and take best out of the car without a lot of expensive repair......aggressive oil maintenance will be your cheaper insurance to make the best of car you own
I have RV that say change oil on 35000 and i do on 12000.....why
Be cause i have see my oil samples and how much addative in oil is gone

Not devious but perhaps not optimal. My tire dealer says the pressure recommendations on my 2008 Corolla are for comfort, not best tire wear. I run them at a higher pressure.

Maybe suspension and wheel bearing wear are a factor too? (n)

I weighed everything, settled on slightly higher pressures.

I have had vehicles with over 250,000 miles on them and over 20 years old and somehow with recommended maintenance made it that far. Of course, there were no major problems that happened because of the recommended maintenance done. I also know people with over 350,000 miles with just recommended maintenance done like 10k oil changes and such. 3-5 years is not a valid point in my opinion because I don't see it.

In maybe 35 years with Honda, they've always recommended transmission fluid changes, every 2~3 years, maybe 20~30K miles. It's a trivial chore, fluids and washers $40 at most. I think the first change is the most important, just judging from the drained fluid appearance. So better sooner than later.

If it's overkill: it's cheap overkill.
