Hyundai Ioniq the new MPGe champion, beats Prius Prime

    There is a couple thread about the Ioniq and its cousin the Kia Niro. We are waiting for the car to get into North American drivers' hands to see if real life lives up to the EPA. Owners overseas are doing better, but some worse.

    The EPA designates the testing regime, not the carmaker. Toyota could not "undersell" their MPG numbers even if they wanted to (as it would be a crime).

    I do know one thing that i make advertising MPG and a lot better without trying hard to accomplish.....
    Where on other end many of advertising from American made cars and German made cars are nowhere close to real world and only could be accomplished with so much watching to get it there....
    And i do top notch maintenance om all my cars....
    And i have all three Major car players at my house

    In parallel hybrids the wheels are driven by two power sources (engine & motor). In series hybrids the wheels are only driven by the Motor, while the engine has no connection. Like a BMW i3.
    I'm sorry but you're comparing apples-to-oranges..... a random bunch of people driving random routes & speeds & conditions. (Also the sample size is Hundreds for the prius versus just 3 Ioniq hybrids.)

    Only *controlled* testing can be compared, because then the cars follow the exact-same path (averaged over dozens of runs) with stringent regulation by the law. So in other words:
    EPA testing
    EU testing
    Japanese government testing
    and so on.

    I'll add that the Ioniq user data isn't over a full year like with the Prius.

    There is 3 cars on Fuelly. Hyundai Ioniq MPG - Actual MPG from 3 Hyundai Ioniq owners
    Need more data to draw conclusions, but the North American model is suppose to have some improvements over the European and Korean ones, like the 12 volt battery delete.

    I really appreciate the discussion on this thread. I had previously learned to rely on Trollbait's opinion. and I learn when others question and discuss the details of the different approaches to automobile propulsion.

    I have nothing to add to the discussion other than several auto writers that I have read faulted Toyota for the CVT and the so called "rubber band effect). I have no such complaint with the two Toyota hybrids I have owned.
    I have also read that the Ioniq should get better milage on the highway and the Prius better in town based on the two different transmissions. I think that was addressed in this thread.

    I'm anxious to get behind the wheel of the Ioniq and decide for myself.

    Remember that a lot of reading you see on internet are paid by Manufacture of the car that will say so much good and not telling the real truth.....
    Nobody will advertise to hurt his own reputation......
