For those who have the stock 17" wheel, I wanted to share a little mod I did. I didn't care for the gray plastic inserts that were on them. When I removed them, there are the mounting holes left behind. Quite ugly. Taking a page from the rear wiper delete I did, I found 1/2" metal hole plugs at Lowes. After laying them out I applied a coat of primer and then 2 coats of gloss enamel black to them. After they dried, I inserted them into the holes on the wheel. I then turned the wheel over and bent the prongs to secure the fit. The plugs cost around $1.40/each and you will need 40 of them. So while not cheap, it's not an expensive wheel replacement either.
Found these, better price: HOLE PLUG 1/2" METAL PACK OF 10 Must say, I like the look of the oem plastic inserts when painted/Plastidipped black.
Looks great! I am guessing the plugs are very lightweight and they are symmetrically distributed around the wheel, but would you not need to re-balance the wheel after installing these?
They weigh next to nothing. Definitely lighter than the plastic inserts. 2016 Prius 4 Touring De-badged Rear wiper delete
I'd prefer stock, say (reluctantly): put the original plastic pieces back in. Good to experiment though. Just my opinion. I just wish Toyota would wake up, design some nice, silver-finish rims, and dropkick all this plastic crap off the end of the driveway.
I agree 100% with both of your opinions! I still think the plastic silver looks better though IMO. I consider my gen 2 wheels fully hubcapless. Once one plastic circle pops off, I rip off all the others. Now they look almost stock and are fully hubcapless.
