One common theme has been the importance of gasoline prices in helping buyers go green with efficient cars and trucks. So this article bears reading and thinking about: After Steady December Climb, Gasoline Prices Retreat in January | TheDetroitBureau.com

After climbing during the last month of 2016, the price of gasoline has retreated for the past three weeks, dropping to $2.27 per gallon, which is down four cents per gallon from a week earlier, according to the survey by AAA.

AAA said the growth in the number of U.S. oil rigs and the increased drilling it implies are raising expectations for a climb in domestic oil production.

Meanwhile, increased U.S. crude oil production and reduced demand has exerted pressure on the national average price at the pump, which has fallen for 21 consecutive days, AAA said.
    . . .

Even though OPEC wants more for oil, current domestic oil provides a buffer to mitigate USA prices. We haven't tested the depth, yet. Long term, our planet does not make fossil fuels as fast as our species burns it up.

Even $2 gas is worth being frugal with.

February is usually the low price point, I thought it was going to be much lower than it is now.

The cheapest in NJ is $2.07 for RUG, by me $2.13. Don't forget, we had a tax increase.

Central and northern Jersey was $2.35 cheapest I saw last week. That was the cash price, credit will add about 10 cents a gallon.

It's all about economics/cost, not so much a question of the physics of oil extraction and the absolute amount of oil in the earth's crust.

Economics ensures that we will never run out of oil, rather that we will taper off extraction when it is simply too expensive to do so compared to alternatives.

I have seen $2.08 here in Florida. I won't ever forget when I had a Toyota Tundra when gas prices were close to $5 and I was paying $80-90 a week in gas. It's nice to not have to worry about gas prices when you have a Prius.

True, but the Tundra hauls more. I still have my 2000 Tundra 2WD Extended Cab for my main hauling duties.

Cheap gas is all over in NJ with a huge gaso tax increase.
NJ has swtiched from dark green to orange/yellow in the GasBuddy heat map.
That pus Virginia among the lowest gaso taxes.
However, North VA is a bit higher gaso tax and we have RFG and we seem to have higher profit margin for the purpose of matching DC/MD/NoVA prices. But I am getting $2.05 - 2.15 with a lucky price war in my neighborhood.
