Prius went into limp mode on freeway, IPM failure

    That's probably why I never noticed anything. Don't do much full throttle passing, lol.

    And while I do pass some at full throttle, I never do it in places where full throttle is actually needed. Always allow a significant margin.

    I notice the lack of power when merging onto the Freeway in Power Mode. Very different from before.

    In my case, they have to open up the inverter, replace a "transistor kit", the gasket & seal it back up. I believed it's over $2k if not covered under warranty.

    Regarding acceleration, due to the non-stop rain in Norcal this past weekend, I haven't really had the chance to push the car yet. But I did noticed the battery seems to go lower faster, confirming what Mendel said about the car slipping into electric-only mode more often.

    Like a lot of stuff, the difference was only noticeable for the first week or so after we got the recall. Then we got used to it. And it wasn't a big difference, noticeable though.

    Seem like almost anything they have to do these days, you're looking at multiple $1000's, if it's not warranty. Having the AC fail can just about total an older car. Something wrong with this picture, and it'll take legislation to change the climate, methinks.

    This thread scares me, My girlfriends 2010 just rolled over 100k miles.. so if any warranty, is gone now. It does alot of highway driving in the mountains, and I can tell alot of the time it seems to be at WOT and really using all it has to go up.... I hope this doesn't happen. We can't afford the fix.

    For the particular problem covered under the recall, her extended warranty should continue until about 2025, regardless of miles.

    she should have a rav4 or something with low miles.

    This is a very informative story but I personally did not seem to notice a drop in mileage after the software update. Failures of the inverter are supposedly still a common problem that Toyota wants to ignore.
